Tyler County Commission Hires New Deputy

The Tyler County Commission met in regular session on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, in the auditorium of the Senior Center in Middlebourne. Minutes from the July 16, 2024, meeting were approved. Also approved was the Fiduciary Report from County Clerk Neil A. Archer II and the Exonerations from Assessor Lisa Jackson.

First up on the agenda was Commission President Mike Smith asking for approval for $3,000 from the 2023/24 Financial Statement preparation by Clayton Enterprises, LLC. Commissioners approved the request.

Next, Mr. Smith asked for approval to change the date of the Commission meeting scheduled for August 13, 2024, due to the County Commissioners annual in-service training with the State Auditor to be held on August 11, 12 & 13. Commissioners approved changing the date of the meeting to August 16, 2024.

Following was Sheriff Dean Pratt asking for approval to hire Jon Wilson as a new county deputy. Mr. Wilson was selected following several interviews and was highly recommended by Sheriff Pratt. Commission approved the hire.

Tyler County Emergency Squad Unit 1, Middlebourne EMS WV submitted their monthly activity for June 2024. The unit had 24 emergency calls with transport, 13 emergency calls without transport and 58 transfers.

In addition to the calls the unit also participated in the Middlebourne Summer Reading Program, active shooter drill at TCHS and the Tyler County Speedway race coverage.

There was one training program, the 2024 WV OEMS Protocol update. They attended or conducted the following meetings: Quarterly Board of Directors meeting and the monthly squad meeting. They also attended the LEPC meeting and the County Commission meeting.

Under Correspondence Mike Smith updated the commission by reporting that he has heard from the Department of Highways, and they will be replacing or repairing the bridge at the 4 H Camp.

During Public Comment, Assessor Lisa Jackson asked the commissioners if they would provide updates on the courthouse renovations to the employees on a monthly basis following the commissioners regular meeting with the contractor. The purpose is to keep the employees informed so they can provide information to the public when asked.

Following the approval to pay the bills the meeting was adjourned at 9:55 AM. The next meeting of the Tyler County Commission is set for August 16, 2024 in the auditorium of the Senior Center in Middlebourne beginning at 9:00 AM.
