Lumberjills chop down Cee Bee’s

Valley high school hosted Clay Battelle on Monday night, January 13, in girls basketball action and sent the visitors home on the short end of a 48-34 game.

The Lumberjills went right to work and doubled up the Lady Cee Bee’s 20-10 in the first eight minutes of play. The home team was hot from beyond the 3-point line with Laken Dawson and Carley Pittman each hitting a pair of 3’s in the frame, as a team the Lumberjills made 8-9 first quarter free throws as well. Michaela Miller hit 4-5 in the frame as she controlled the boards and was fouled on put backs. Dawson and Kennedi Dallison each went 2-2 in the quarter.

The second quarter was nearly even as Valley hit for nine and the visitors canned eight to make it 29-18 at the break. Following halftime the Lumberjills used a five point quarter from Dallison to outscore Clay Battelle 11-4 for a 40-22 lead heading into the final eight minutes of play. The hometown girls won the fourth quarter 12-8 despite resting the starters in the frame.

Valley was led by Dawson with 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Dallison added 11 points and six steals. Miller ended with nine markers and had seven rebounds. Pittman added seven points and played a nice floor game. Elynn Derby, Aubree Mason, and Kendra Highly each hit for two points. The Lumberjills hit 16 shots from the floor, including five 3’s and went 10-13 from the free throw line.

Clay Battelle was led by Ali Hellyer who hit for 14 points, including a pair of 3’s. Bre Debolt added seven and Kaitlyn Easton got six. The visitors made 15 shots from the floor and hit 1-2 from the free throw line.
