Paden City Holds Senior Night

Paden City High School honored their Seniors on Saturday, February 19th. Although the results of the game did not go the Wildcats way a nice crowd gathered to send off the senior basketball players and cheerleaders. Senior boys were Shane Anderson, Brandon Hizer and Ashton Howard. Senior cheerleaders included Braelyn Little, Hallie McDonald and Marie Schram.

The game was a back and forth affair with Paden City dropping a hard fought contest by the score of 35-26. Both teams got off to a slow start with the first quarter ending with the Wildcats trailing 8-6.The 2nd quarter was the downfall for the Cats as they were outscored 11-1. The comeback started in the 3rd period when the Cats outscored Beallsville 12-6 but fell short in the fourth quarter. Leading the Wildcats was Jeremiah Thomas with 10 points, three rebounds and three assists. He was followed by Brandon Hizer with five points and nine rebounds, Joey Baker with three points and six rebounds. Mickey Guerro failed to score but added four rebounds and five assists. Beallsville was led by Brandon Loudin 16 points and Logan Taylor with 12 points.

The Wildcats will hit the road this week with games at Doddridge on Monday February 21 and at Calhoun on February 23. Sectional Play for Paden City will begin on Saturday February 26.

Lumberjacks and Wildcats Meet on the Hardwood

The Paden City Boys Basketball team traveled to Pine Grove on Monday February 14th to take on their cross county rival Valley Lumberjacks in a Valentines Day Special. It was not so sweet for the Wildcats as they came up on the short end of a 56-41 loss. The Cats had two players in double figures with Sahne Anderson scoring 13 popinyts followed by Mickey Guerra with 12. Bradon Hizer added nine points and one blocked shot in the losing effort.

The Lumberjacks had three players combine for 41 points led by Gavin Derby with a game high 17 points including three 3-pointers and a perfect 6 for 6 from the free throw line. Walker Bassett added 13 points and Patrick Higginbotham hit on three 3-pointers to finish with 11.

Valley jumped out to an early first period score of 17-9 and extended the lead at halftime to 31-19. Any hopes for the Wildcats ended in the third fame as the Jacks outscored the Cats 16-6. Paden City did manged to win the fourth quarter 16-9 but it was to late for a comeback.

Paden City next will host the Linsly Cadets on Wednesday February 16 at 7pm. Valley, meanwhile, will host Tyler Consolidated on February 15th.

Wildcats Lose to Doddridge

The Paden City boys basketball team traveled to West Union on Monday Night February 21st to take on the Bulldogs. It was all Doddridge County as they came away with a 69-33 victory over the Wildcats. Doddridge jumped out to a quick 21-8 lead in the first period and extended that to 33-16 by halftime. The second half was not much better for the Wildcats as they were only able to score eight and nine points in the third and fourth quarters. Leading scorers for the Cats were Jeremiah Thomas with nine points and four rebounds, Brandon Hizer added seven points and 10 rebounds, Shane Anderson five points and five rebounds. Ashton Howard scored six points on two 3-point point shots.

Next up for the Wildcats is a trip to Calhoun County on February 23rd to wrap up the regular season.

Paden City Drops Road Game at Calhoun County

The Paden City boys basketball team made the long trip to Calhoun County to try and avenge an earlier loss to the Red Devils. It was not a good night for the Wildcats as they came home on the short end of a 41-28 defeat. The Wildcats started slow scoring only two points in the first quarter and nine for the half.

The third and fourth quarters were a little better as Paden City manged to score 20 points but the lead was to big for the comeback. Joey Baker was the bright spot for the Cats as he recorded a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Brandon Hizer had nine points and nine rebounds and Shane Anderson had eight points and cleared the backboards with 12 rebounds. The Wildcats will now enter into Sectional play beginning on Saturday February 26 with a home game against Hundred.
