Wildcats Girls’ Team Falls to Wood County Christian

Still searching for their first win on the season, the Wildcats hosted Wood County Christian Thursday night, January 13, in Paden City, in girls basketball action. The Wildcats had four players dent the scroeboad, but it wasn’t near enough as they finished the game o n the losing end of a 56-27 score.
Paden City only put six points on the board in each of the first to quarters, while the visitors pumped in 29 to build a lead they would not relinquish. The second half was more of the same as the Cat’s hit for 15 points while Wood County knocked in 27 for the win.
Leading the way for Paden City was McKenzie Thomas with 11 points and five rebounds before exiting the game with five fouls. She was backed by freshman Lexi Mathis who contributed eight points, six rebounds and one assist. Haley Walton added six points and five rebounds, and Jocelyn Sawinski ended with a basket for two points, while leading the team with seven rebounds.
The Wildcats of Wood County landed three players in double figures and had six make it in the scorebook. They had 34 rebounds to the home teams 26 and forced Paden City into 19 turnovers on their way to the win. Paden City shot 11-45 from the floor and was 5-10 from the free throw line.

Paden City has yet to taste victory on the season and Monday night, January 10, was no exception as they traveled to Hundred where the Hornets stung the Wildcats 66-18. Paden City got the first two points of the game on a steal and layup from junior guard McKenzie Thomas, but that was all the points they could muster the entire first quarter as Hundred’s defense caused 11 first quarter turnovers and they produced 22 points as a team to put the game away early.
By halftime the score was 31-11 and for all intent and purposes the ball game was over. After giving up the games first bucket Hundred went to work inside and out with six players scoring in the first quarter led by five points from Rachel Snedden including a three and five from AddieTuttle.
Top scorer for the game was Tuttle with 20, while sophomore Roxie Huggins was right behind with18 points on the night . Snedden added nine to the scorebook, while Ashlyn Peters hit for eight and Summer Morris canned seven. Leah Dean hit for four points and Tationna Adams hit a free throw to end the Hornets scoring.
Paden City got 10 points from Thomas, four from Lexi Mathis, two from Haley Walton and two from Riley Blake. Hundred forced the Wildcats into 33 turnovers on the night and outrebounded the Cats 23-12.
