TCHS Football Finishes With Winning Record
Tyler Consolidated Football came close this year but fell just short of making the playoffs finishing 17th in the WVSSAC Football rankings.
The loss to St Marys left the Knights in a tie with Gilmer County and the tie breaker system went to Gilmer County.
The Knights finished the season with a 6-4 record and will graduate 7 seniors.
The returning underclassmen should provide Coach Ryan Walton with a solid nucleus for 2022.
Lost to graduation is Weston Henderson, Caleb Strode, Case Landis, Ben Davis, David Grimes, Ryan Fletcher and Luca Ventola.
Sophomore Sean Winfrey led the Knight offense this year rushing for 1,257 yards on 198 attempts and 20 touchdowns.
Winfrey also contributed to the scoring catching one pass for a touchdown and scoring 11 two point conversions.
He was followed by teammate Jayden Helmick, a Junior, rushing for 523 yards on 79 attmeps and 2 touchdowns. Jayden also had 24 receptions for 452 yards and four touchdowns and combined six touchdowns on punt and kickoff returns.
Quarterback Trenton Huffman was 53 of 100 passes for 803 yards with nine touchdowns and seven interceptions.
Ty Walton and Caleb Strode each had two touchdowns.
Caleb had one 2 point conversion. Case Landis added three scores for the Silver Knights.
Defensively the Knights were led by Case Landis, Kayden Huffman, Kendall Huffman, Trenton Huffman,Shane Bates, Jayden Helmick, John Headley, Weston Henderson and Caleb Strode all with double digit tackles.
Coach Ryan Walton summed up the season, “Although we had a winning record, our season did not end the way we wished. Hate it for the seniors, who were good leaders and great examples for the younger guys.
“We had several underclassmen who gained valuable experience and this will show next year
” The staff will be patiently waiting to get started in 2022. With a productive off season, these younger guys could have a successful season next year,” said Coach Walton.
