Knights Volleyball Working Towards Post Season
The Lady Knights Volleyball Team finished the month of September with a 15-6 record and enter the second half of the season playing good volleyball. On Tuesday, they were off to Williamstown for a key match-up with the Williamstown Yellowjackets. The home team wasted little time getting out of the gate, and jumped out to a 15-8 lead. Although the Knights narrowed the gap behind strong blocking from the front line, unforced errors in Set 1 would be the key factor in the Knights coming up short 25-18. In Set 2 the Knights, recovered and took an early 8-4 lead, which eventually swelled to what appeared to be a commanding lead. Williamstown, however, responded, and service errors by the Knights would prove to be costly as the Jackets held on and narrowly took the set 25-23. The third set was all Jackets as they won 25-14. Afterwards, Head Knights Coach Richard Summers said, “This was a battle between two pretty evenly matched teams that just came down to who made the least mistakes. Right now, we are a very good team knocking on the door to being a very special team. Hopefully, we can move one more notch during the month of October.”
On Thursday, the team traveled back to Williamstown, but this trip was for a match against the undefeated team from Wood County Christian. The JV started the night off on the right foot by winning in straight sets with scores of 25-13, 25-11, improving their record to 9-2.
The Varsity Knights, who had been down a player against Williamstown, were at full force and followed suit and won the first set 25-19.
Wood County, playing tough defense, hung tight in the second set, and proved they will be a team to reckon with come post-season play, but the Knights went on to take Set Two 25-17 and quickly followed by winning Set Three 25-12. “Wood Christian is a quality team and I knew we would have to play well to win. Right now we are not as good as we should be and not as good as we are gong to be. But we are better than we used to be and that is the goal. Just keep getting better until post- season play,” Summers noted.
The Knights will be hosting the Sectional Tournament which runs from November 1-4th .
