Wildcats Fall in Straight Sets to Steubenville Central
Paden City hosted Steubenville Central in girls volleyball on Tuesday September 7, with the visitors overcoming the Cats in straight sets 25-15, 25-20, and 25-23.
Paden City got off to a slow start in the first set, but soon warmed up to put up a good fight over the larger school and battle them to the end with the third set going the distance. McKenzie Thomas and Brandis Dalrymple both ended with five kills each, while Madelyn Still added three kills and four blocks, and Rayna Smith and Madi Kline each got two. Isabella Snider added one kill. Dalrymple also had one block at the net.
Thomas served up seven points including two aces. Phillips had five points and an ace, Carley Sweeney added six points and two aces, and Dalrymple got five points and three aces. Kline ended with four points including an ace. Phillips had 10 digs, while Still, Thomas, and Dalrymple each added six digs. Sweeney came through with two digs.
Thomas had 35 sets and 11 assists in the match, while Sweeney added 27 sets and five assists. The loss dropped the Wildcats to 2-5 on the young season.
Wildcats Take down Defending State Champs Wirt County at TCHS Quad
On Saturday September 4, the Wildcats played Wirt County in an opening game at the TCHS quad. Paden City took the defending state champs to overtime in set one before falling 24-26. However they rebounded from the set one loss and took the next two sets with a hard fought 25-23 set two victory and an easy 25-13 set three win to take the match.
Senior veteran Brandis Dalrymple led the charge with 14 kills on the night, while adding 10 points including 4 hard hit aces. She also filled the scorebook with one block, four digs and an assist. Backing her on the day was junior stalwart McKenzie Thomas who lit up the socreboard with 10 hard hit kills, eight points including an ace, and 10 digs, 26 sets and 13 assists.
Haley Walton offered four kills, a block and two assists. Sophomore Rayna Smith had two blocks, two points and an ace, and two digs in the match. Alyssa Phillips got three points, nine digs and three service points.
Sophomore Mallory Dennis had a good game at the service line with 14 points and three aces, while also adding one dig. Madi Kline continued to impress with 10 oints and three aces, while also getting an assist. Carlee Sweeney served up 13 points including 2 aces, plus two digs, 28 sets and 10 assists.
Also on Saturday the Cats took on Williamstown who won the quad and overpowered the Cats winning both sets 25-15 and 25-13 to take the match. The Wildcats a kill, a dig and three blocks fro senior Madi Kline, while Isabella Phillips had four points including an ace, plus 14 digs. McKenzie Thomas had five digs 18 sets and an assist, plus one block and two points. Brandis Dalrymple had one block and four service points. Carlee Sweeney chipped in with seven service points and two digs.
In the Cats match up with Tyler Consolidated the Wildcats fell in the first set 10-25, before taking the Silver Knights into overtime in set two before falling 25-27 to the home team.
Paden City got nine kills from Brandis Dalrymple, who also added eight service points including two aces, and two digs. McKenzie Thomas pitched in with four kills, two service points, plus six digs, 16 sets and nine assists. Madi Kline got three kills, five service points including two aces and three digs. Mallory Dennis added four points including two aces and four digs. Carlee Sweeney had 14 sets, six assists, and four digs, plus six service points.
