Paden City Picks Up Second Win
Paden City made the hour long trip out Rt 7, to Hundred worthwhile Friday night December 20,as the Wildcats put together a team effort that the Hornets coudn’t control and picked up a 36-24 win to get their second win on the young season. The Cats who only have seven players to work with have been in nearly every game they’ve played so far and are showing significant improvement for a team who has four freshman among the team total.
On Friday the Cats invaded the Hornets nest and jumped on top early for a 13-5 first quarter lead and never looked back outscoring the Hornets in every quarter to gaarner the Victory while improving to 2-5 on the season.
Skylar Fulks had the hot hand in the contest as she finished with a game high 14 points, including two long range 3-pointers. She was backed up by the promising freshmen duo of McKenzie Thomas and Tanley McEldowney who scored eight points and nine points respectively. Thomas and McEldowney also dicvided six steals and Thomas had two assists and six rebounds. Raven Fulks was a beast on the boards for the Wildcats as she grabbed eight boards and blocked a shot. Abbe Stackpole added five points to the Cats total. Paden City next game will be a home matchup with Ritchie County on January 3.
“We are continuing to get better. We lack the depth most teams have so our girls have to be well conditioned and stay healthy. Our kids play hard and continue to work for all that they get,” Coach Alan Miller said. “We are a very young inexperienced team, but we do have good athletes who are laying it on the line night in and night out and that’s all we can ask. We’re proud of otheir efforts.”
Lumberjills defeat Lady Cats
Paden City traveled to Pine Grove on Thursday for a re-match against the Valley Lumberjills who defeated the Cats earlier this season. Valley jumped out to a quick eight point lead 18-10 after one quarter and never lost the lead as they cruised to 56-40 win to raise their record to 3-2 on the season.
Paden City fell to 1-5 with the loss, but the Cats put up a good effort despite having only seven players to work with. Valley’s height, experience and depth was just to much for the young Wildcats. Senior Abbe Stackpole led the way for Paden City as she pumped in 12 points and collected three steals. McKenzie Thomas the Cats promising freshman turned in a solid performance scoring eight points and adding two assists. Raven Fulks added seven points and collared eight rebounds while freshman Tanley McEldowney chipped with six markers. Skylar Fulks also helped in the scoring column as she contributed five on the night and Brynna Hoskins rounded out the scoring for the Cats with a basket for two points.
The Cats managed to play even ball with the Lumberjills in the second quarter with each team hitting 13 points and the Cats outscored Valley in the fourth 10-8, but the home girls won the first and third quarters big to get the win. Valley used a three pronged attack led by Brittany Kennedy with a game high 17 points. Kimberly Sles also hit double figures with 14 markers and McKinlee Yoho scored 12. Valley got the win despite going just 5-14 from the free throw line while Paden City shot just 50 percent with a 9-18 showing from the line. Valley however hit 25 field goals to the Cats 15.
Wildcats drop close one to Cee Bee’s
The Wildcats of coach Alan Miller dropped a close one on the road Monday, December 16, at Blacksville, falling 43-38 to the Cee Bees.
Paden City fell behind 10-7 after the first quarter and went into the locker room behind by eight. However. they keptfighting back in the second half and pulled to within five in the fourth before time ran out as they suffered their third loss on the early season against one win.
The young Cats, who only have seven players on the roster including four who are freshmen, were led by senior veteran Abbe Stackpole who knocked home 11 markers to go along with six steals and three assists.
Junior Raven Fulks a much improved player from last season countered with nine points and six rebounds. McKenzie Thomas one of the Cats four freshman also added nine points from her guard position. Tanley McEldowney and Bri Hoskins two more freshmen came through with four points each.
Fulks, Thomas and Stackpole all canned three-pointers for the Cats, and the Green and White girls hit 5-9 from the free throw line. However, Clay Battelle canned 12-14 from the line which proved to be the difference in the game. The Cee Bees also had the games top scorer in Ammons with 14. She was supported by Sollars who added 13 to help the home team to the victory.
