Makenna Martin is safe at second.

On Saturday, April 19, the Tyler Consolidated Lady Knights hosted the River Lady Pilots in a doubleheader showdown under the lights, with game one turning into a tightly contested affair.

Despite a strong effort, the Lady Knights came up just short, falling to the Pilots by a score of 3-1. River struck early, plating a run in the first inning and adding insurance in the third and seventh frames. Tyler Consolidated’s lone run came in the bottom of the fourth, when they briefly threatened to rally.

Lexus Rocchio and Macey Shuman provided the only offensive spark for the Lady Knights, each reaching first base against a dominant outing from River’s ace.

On the mound for the Knights was Hailey Sandy who delivered a gritty complete game performance of her own, striking out five and issuing just two walks.

Lady Pilots Soar Past Late Knights in Game Two

In Game Two of the matchup, the Lady Knights came out hot, lighting up the scoreboard with four runs in the bottom of the first to take an early 4-0 lead. But the Lady Pilots had other plans.

The third inning proved to be the turning point, as the Lady Pilots exploded for 10 runs, completely shifting the momentum and grabbing a commanding 10-5 lead heading into the fourth. Refusing to let up, River tacked on five more in the top of the fifth to seal a 15-6 win, ending the game early via the mercy rule after five innings.

Jahaila Gorrel led the offensive charge for the LadyKnights, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Hailey Sandy was perfect at the plate, finishing 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Jaedyn Gump and Faith Lemasters each chipped in with a hit.

On the mound, McKenzie Utt and Hailey Sandy shared duties for the Knights, with McKenzie taking the loss in the shortened contest.
