Lady Knights Fall to Ritchie

Tyler Consolidated played host to the Ritchie County Lady Rebels in the annual Boggs Roundball Classic in girls basketball action on Saturday, January 18 and were defeated by the score of 63-40. The Lady Knights had early trouble scoring the basketball and only managed 14 points by halftime. The Lady Knights kept the game closer in the second half and with seven minutes to play trailed only by 10 points but were not able to close the gap. The Lady Knights were led by Katie Grimm with 11 points followed closely by Ryland Henderson with 10 points. Juliana Lattea scored six points and pulled down a game high 14 rebounds. Macie Highley and Taylor Donaldson each had four points for the now 3-9 Lady Knights.

The Silver Knights will be in action again on Monday, January 20 with a home game against rival Magnolia Lady Blue Eagles.

Silver Knights Go 2-0 in Boggs Roundball

On Friday evening January 17, Tyler Consolidated met up with rival Magnolia at the Castle in the annual Boggs Roundball classic in boys basketball action before a packed house. The Silver Knights used a big third quarter to pull away for the win 55-36.

Magnolia and Tyler took to the floor in what looked to be a tough game for both teams. A close first quarter had fans on their feet as the Silver Knights ended the period on top 16-14. However the second quarter saw Magnolia turn ice cold scoring just eight points in the frame while the home team pumped in 13 to go up 29-22 at the midway point. Following the break things got worse for the Blue Eagles as they couldn’t buy a basket and only managed two points in the period, while Tyler continued to impress and hit for 18 to put the contest out of reach 47-24 with eight minutes to play.

Coach Mark Winters squad got a balanced scoring attack led by Brady Giovinazzo taking game high scoring honors with 16 points with three coming from long range, Cole Lemasters added 14 markers and Brady Strode netted 11 to give the Knights three double figure scorers on the night. Also helping fill the scorebook was Zayden Hardbarger with six, Garrett Bordenkicher with five, and Austin Peck and Cam Strode with two each.

The Silver Knights, who improved to 4-4 with the win hit 22 field goals in the game with four 3-pointers and went just 8-20 from the free throw line. Magnolia on the other hand could only manage 13 field goals including four 3’s. The Blue Eagles were limited to eight free throws, making six.

Tyler Consolidated Wins Close One Over John Marshall

In their second game in two days on Saturday, January 18 in the annual Boggs Roundball the TCHS boys Silver Knights pulled out a four point victory by the score of 48-44. After one quarter the Knights trailed the Monarchs 17-8 and were behind 31-22 at the half. Coach Mark Winters’ squad came out of the locker room on a mission and pulled away in the third and fourth quarter to pull out the victory. The Knights had three players in double digits led by Brody Giovinazzo with 15, Brady Strode with 12 and Garrett Bordenkircher with 10. Also scoring for the Knights was Cole Lemasters with nine and Austin Peck with two. John Marshall was led by Jackson Helms with a game high 19 points.

The Silver Knights will now participate in the Magnolia Rotary Challenge on Saturday, January 25 when they meet up with Ravenswood at 11:15 AM in New Martinsville. It will be the second matchup of these two teams. In the first game, earlier this year, the Silver Knights were defeated by the Red Devils 53-51 on a last second field goal from Red Devil Noah Dawson.
