Paden City Drops One to Bishops
The Wildcats’ Luke Cooper pitched a complete game, striking out seven batters and walking four, but it wasn’t enough as the Bishops took a 2-1 lead into the bottom of the fifth then plated four more in the fifth and sixth to come away with a 6-1 win.
Hayden Hizer had two doubles for the Wildcats and Trey Slider went 2-3 at the plate, knocking in Paden City’s only run. The Wildcats fell to 4-5 on the season with the loss
In other baseball action, the Wildcats hammered the Lumberjacks for a 12-6 victory.
Cooper belted a three-run homer in the top of the first to take the Wildcats to a three-run lead, but it was short-lived as Valley’s Colby Bucher drilled a grand slam in the top of the third to put the Lumberjacks on top by one.
Neither team scored in the fourth, but the Wildcats scored nine runs over the last three innings to put the game away, 12-6.
Wildcats’ Aaron Heasley hammered three singles while Hizer and Colton Elliott each added a single.
Ryan Cross had as single and drove in one run. Cooper crossed the plate three times for Paden City while Trey Slider and Hizer each scored twice.
Senior pitcher Andrew Dennis threw a complete game and struck out 12 Valley batters while walking only three and giving up six hits. The Wildcats raised their record to 4-3 with the win.
“We made good contact tonight and Dennis stepped up and threw strikes,” said Wildcats’ Coach Brent Croasmun. “We were able to get a complete game from him. The kids have been working hard to eliminate mistakes and are spending extra time working with the bats and it paid off.”
