Have you ever used flattery to try to get something from your spouse?

The definition of flattery is “excessive, insincere praise or compliment, pandering.” Did you notice the two components of flattery? excessive and insincere, In 1 Thessalonians 2:5 (ESW)…. For we never came with words of flattery, as you know, nor with a pretend for greed- God is witness. Paul implies in scripture that flattery is often given with greedy motives., whereas in his case, he claims God as witness that he never used flattery to achieve his goal of bringing salvation through Christ to The Thessalonian people. Paul knew that flattery gets you nowhere in evangelism . I can testify that it also gets you nowhere in marriage! I know this from experience. I can’t get away with flattering my husband. He can sense when I am excessive and insincere.

Let me just say flattery ends up getting you nowhere.
