Curtis Hayes

Curtis “Spike” L. Hayes, 89, of Paden City, WV left this world on Monday, January 29, 2024 while at Sistersville General Hospital.

Spike was born August 30, 1934, in Asbury, WV son of the late Mike and Mae (Zicafoose) Hayes.

He was a retired teacher and guidance counselor, a U.S. Army Veteran, served in the reserves, retired from the Army National Guard and served in the Special Forces as a Master Sergeant, former E.M.T. for the former Paden City Ambulance Squad. Spike enjoyed gardening, parachuting, reading and performing music at church, past guitar instructor for WVNCC. He was a FFA member (having won a National Award his Senior year) and supporter for many years thereafter. Spike was a member of Paden City Christian Church. He served as a past Elder for the Agape Christian Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Irma Smith and brother, Phillip Hayes.

Surviving is his wife of fifty-nine years, Eloise B. (Clark) Hayes; four sons, Walter (Heather) Hayes of Buffalo, WV, Andrew Hayes of Paden City, WV, Benjamin (Anna) Hayes of Pittsburgh, PA and Peter (Courtney) Hayes of North Chesterfield, VA; three grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Jenna and Aiden; sister, Sarah Ingles of Lewisburg, WV; three nieces, Christy, Willanna and Tina and nephew, Kevin.

Friends received 3-6 p.m., Friday, February 2, 2024 at the Jarvis-Williams Funeral Home in Paden City, where funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, February 3, 2024 with Kenny Keifer officiating. Burial will take place at the convenience of the family in the Asbury Cemetery.
