Tyler County Commission Announces “I Voted” Winners
On Tuesday morning at 9:00am The Members of the Tyler Commission met in the Tyler County Senior Citizen auditorium.
First item of business was the announcement of the winners of the TMCS competition to design this voting season, “I Voted” stickers to be given to those who vote in the upcoming primary and mid-term elections. First place: Skyla Shields. Second: Brycen Owens. Third Place: Trey Moore. The three are students at Tyler Consolidated Middle School
Following the presentation to the students, the board members approved the minutes of the February 24, 2026 meeting. All members approved.
County Clerk Neil A. Archer read into the records the complete monthly fiduciary report. Upon hearing the report, the members of the board approved the report’s contents.
Tyler County Assessor Lisa Jackson, reported there were no exonerations to report this meeting.
Tyler Fair Association member, Joni McCrobie reported on the state of affairs of the Tyler County Fair. She stated that at last year’s fair, over 8,000 visitors attended the festival. Ms. McCrobie spoke of needed improvements on the fairgrounds. She explained that the fair revenues pay for the annual event. She also explained that the fair has scaled back some activities to maintain financial integrity and due diligence in financial control. Stating that for the last three years, the fair has not experienced any challenge with the weather during fair week. This allows them to be financially prepared in the event of a year where weather would affect attendance.
Ms. McCrobie spoke of needed repairs in the camping area of the electrical system that have not been upgraded since 1970. Each fair season, issues arise with newer campers that need more power. There are some issues with the camping area’s sewer system.
The Commission members pointed out that other than three buildings owned by the fair committee, the county is the caretaker for any necessary repairs. They stated assessments and bid cost need to be gathered for them to make any decisions on the need for upgrades. The issue was tabled at this meeting with no actions taken.
President Lance Hickman raised for discussion of an order for change #9 that applies to underlying issues needed in the ongoing construction process of the courthouse that had not been seen before the construction began. Change Order #10, applies to sprayed insulation needed in portions of the court house work. Both change of orders #9, $62,000.00 and #10, $113,000 approved.
The commission discussed the date of the May meeting, due to its being scheduled on the same day as May’s primary elections. A motion was made to reschedule to Friday, May 8th. Members approved.
Commission members scheduled a budget workshop for 26/27 FY. The meeting will be held beginning March 16th-18th. The Commission approved the meeting.
Tyler County Prosecutor, D. Luke Furbee gave the commission the progress of terminating the current contract with GST. He explained they have been helpful in the process of transition to a new provider. He hopes the process will be soon completed.
E-911 Director, Josh Fulks requested the board to go into executives’ session to discuss hiring of new employees. Upon return to open meeting the board approved hiring Brandi John.
Tyler County EMS Director Logan Sailor gave a report to commissioners concerning the Willscot Building rental. The commission approved a monthly rental payment of $3,895.
Tyler County FRN Director Jill Ash introduced to commission Nicole Manul, the new substance abuse prevention coordinator. Discussion was held on approving funding of Off to Life Basics by Elizebeth Seckman. Seckman discussed how the 12th grade program has joined with Wetzel County and held with the coordination of WVNCC. The program introduces students to members of the public who work in the banking, Red Cross, plumbing, architect, and substance abuse program. The point of the program is to give students an opportunity to speak with citizens to better understand opportunities beyond school with real life skills. The Commission approved funding up to $3,000 from Opioid funds. The program will be held September 8th.
Following approval to pay the bills the meeting was adjourned. The next meeting of the Tyler County Commission will be held on March 24, 2026 at 9:00 AM in the auditorium of the Senior Center in Middlebourne.
