4-H Camp Held In Tyler County

Tyler County 4-H held its annual summer camp from July 11-14 at the 4-H campgrounds near Middlebourne, with 12 local youth taking part in the four-day event filled with outdoor activities, learning, and team building.

Campers this year included Easton Donaldson, Marylin Foltz, Dawson Haught, Jaxson Haught, Xavier Schmidt, Chace Shepherd, Khalie Shepherd, Wyatt Shepherd, James Shively, Issac Thompson, Ashtin Wade, and Kaitlyn Wallace.

The camp was supported by a dedicated team of volunteers and staff members. Camp counselors this year were John Jackson, Emily Jackson, Tricia Silliman, Connie Stewart, Beth Jackson, and Mike Schmidt. Amelia Dugan and Dalton Darth served as Extension Camping Instructors (ECI), while Maureen Miller contributed as the STEM ambassador, leading educational activities focused on science, technology, engineering, and math.

Chief Kaitlyn Wallace led the campers through their classes and outside assignments including Tribal Duties. Tribal Loyalty leaders were Ashtin Wade and Chace Shepherd.

Awards presented at the conclusion of camp:

Head H: Given to the camper who offers good ideas and logical thought, demonstrates unbiased thinking in dealing with difficult situations: Kaitlyn Wallace.

Heart H: Given to the camper who is loyal, caring, and trustworthy: Khalie Shepherd. Hand H: Given to the camper who is always willing to help and provide a strong positive example: Chace Shepherd.

Health H: Given to the camper who demonstrates physical fitness, mental alertness, and emotional maturity: Jaxson Haught.

Spirit of Camp: Awarded to the Outstanding Camper who embodies all qualities of the Head, Heart, Hands, and Health awards: Marilyn Foltz
