American Legion members salute the flag during Sistersville's Fourth of July celebration.

Sunshine, music, and the sound of laughter filled the air Sunday afternoon as families and friends gathered for the annual Barb Vincent Picnic in the Park, a much-loved Sistersville tradition that once again delivered a full day of community fun.

The event kicked off promptly at 1 p.m. under sunny skies in Sistersville Park with a stirring performance of the national anthem by Eli Dutton, a student at Tyler Consolidated High School. Immediately following, members of the American Legion presented the colors in a moving patriotic tribute.

Attendees had no shortage of delicious food options with six food trucks scattered on the park grounds. Those in attendance were Poor Daddy Woodfired Pizza, Black Bear Kitchen, Twisted Toppings and Sundays, and Bobbie J’s. A new and welcomed addition to this year’s lineup was Cousins Maine Lobster from Morgantown. From sizzling slices to sweet treats, the culinary offerings satisfied every craving.

One of the day’s biggest hits was free swimming at the Sistersville Pool, open from 1 to 8 p.m. The pool saw a steady crowd throughout the day, keeping lifeguards, concession staff, and management on their toes as families splashed and cooled off in the July heat that reached the mid-nineties.

Children were also treated to several large inflatables, including waterslides, set up throughout the park grounds. The colorful structures kept kids entertained and cool for hours, adding to the festive atmosphere.

Live music took center stage as the afternoon wore on. Local performer PT Dabbs drew a crowd at the park shelter from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. with his group known as Henri Lane setting a laid-back, summery tone. Later in the day as the crowd began to grow, Dustin Kildow entertained on the main stage from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Closing out the event was the well-known Parkersburg-based band The Travelers rocking the main stage from 7 to 9:30 p.m., encouraging the audience to sing along under the stars.

As dusk settled over the celebration, anticipation built for the evening’s grand finale, which was the Starfire Fireworks Show which began promptly at 9:30. Planning Commission member Connie Boyd had the honor of pressing the button to launch the first burst, officially kicking off the show. Spectators packed Sistersville Park, while the riverbanks on both sides of the Ohio were lined with onlookers. The Sistersville Ferry dinner cruise was sold out offering guests a prime on the water view of the spectacle. Dozens of recreational boaters also anchored along the river watching it all as the vibrant colors lit up the night sky. It was a spectacular close to a full day of food, fun, and summertime celebration!

Whether enjoying a slice of pizza, listening to live tunes, or simply catching up with neighbors, the Barb Vincent Picnic in the Park proved once again why it’s a beloved local tradition.

“It was a great day to spend with friends and family,” Planning Commission member Connie Boyd shared. “Good food, good music, and those fireworks! You just can’t beat it.”
