The Sistersville City Council met on Monday, March 10, at the City Building where they addressed ongoing infrastructure issues and upcoming community events.

Three other leaks around town were repaired by the city crew and things are back to normal.

Next, Connie Boyd, representing the Planning Commission, announced that a citywide cleanup week is scheduled for April 21-26, 2025. Dumpsters will be set up adjacent to the sewer plant in the south end of town. Citizens wishing to drop off items must show their city water bill.

Connie went on to inform the council that the Planning Commission will present new member candidates for approval at the next council meeting.

She also highlighted the need for donations to support the upcoming Picnic In The Park scheduled for July 6, 2025. This year’s event will feature both adult and children’s rides. The total cost for the rides is $8755 while fireworks will cost an additional $8,500.

Council then approved a request from Dave Shelton to hold the Second Annual 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament at the Sistersville Park outdoor court. The tournament is scheduled for April 26, 2025.

The city continues their efforts for drug prevention by approving the expenditure from the Opioid Prevention fund in the amount of $51,248 for night vision goggles for the local police and the sheriff’s deputies. A portion of this expenditure includes the purchase of synthetic drugs for training of the drug dogs.

Next, Council approved Taylor Rosenlieb as a new member of the Park and Pool Board.

The council then heard an update from Mayor Bill Rice on the recent developments in the dilapidated building project. Four properties have been cleared for razing that include 120 Virginia St., 112 McKinley St., 113 Cliff St. and 294 North Wells. Once the asbestos testing is complete and removed, those properties will be put out for bid for the demolition.

Once all agenda topics were completed the meeting was adjourned. The next meeting of the Sistersville City Council will be held on April 14, 2025, in the City Building in Sistersville beginning at 7:00 PM.
