Tyler County Commission Approves New EMS Employees

By Randy Rutherford - Staff Writer | Nov 20, 2024

The Tyler County Commission met on Thursday, November 14th in the auditorium of the Senior center in Middlebourne. Following the approval of the minutes from the October 22, 2024, meeting, the Fiduciary Report, and the Exonerations, the meeting began with Adrianna Lindsey from THA Realty addressing the Commissioners regarding the purchase of the property and house at 115 Main Street in Middlebourne.

Adrianna, representing the Dotson family, stated they were asking $125,000 for the house pending their purchase of a new house. Commissioners are interested in the property to allow the renovation of the courthouse access to the additional acreage. The additional acreage will allow for renovation expansion. After discussion the Commission countered the offer with $100,000. Adrianna said she had the ability to accept the offer on behalf of the Dotson’s. Adrianna will present the Commission with a final contract at the next meeting.

Logan Sailor, Tyler County EMS Director, asked for approval to hire three part-time employees. Prospective part time employees are Paramedic Theodore Smith with a start date of November 18, Advanced EMT Brandon Carpenter with a start date of November 20 and EMT Tiffany Walkowiak with a start date of December 4. All were approved for hire by the Commissioners. Also, Mr. Sailor asked for approval to move EMT Brain Taylor from full-time to part-time. The commissioners approved the request. Finally, Mr. Sailor asked for approval to post the position of full-time Paramedic. Commission approved the request.

Commission President Mike Smith asked for approval to reappoint Ron George to the Tyler County Public Service District with a six-year term. His current term is set to expire on December 31, 2024. Commission approved the request.

Tyler County Chief Deputy Shannon Huffman approached the commissioners regarding the purchase of in-car cameras for all 13 vehicles in the fleet. He explained that the current supplier of the cameras, Digital Ally, is no longer able to service the cameras. Mr. Huffman explained he has a quote from AXON for a five-year contract at a price of $159,697.20 to outfit all 13 cruisers. He went on to explain that by purchasing the cameras for all vehicles now would save the county approximately $17,000 over the next five years versus buying the cameras one at a time each year. The commissioners tabled the request and asked Deputy Huffman to obtain a second bid for their next meeting. Deputy Huffman then asked for an Executive Session to discuss personnel regarding a resignation of an employee. Commission went into the session at 9:48 AM with no announcement following the session.

There was no one available for public comment and the meeting was adjourned. The next meeting of the Tyler County Commission is set for November 26, 2024, at 9:00 AM in the auditorium of the Senior Center in Middlebourne.
