Tyler County Commission Holds Ballot Drawing
The Tyler County Commission met on Tuesday, February 22 at 9 a.m. at the courthouse in Middlebourne. The meeting began with the Ballot Drawing for the upcoming Primary election on May 10, 2022. The procedure requires a blind draw for the order in which their names will appear on the ballot. For a complete listing of the candidates and order they appear on the ballot you can contact the County Clerks office in the courthouse.
At 9:30 a.m. the regular business portion of the meeting began with the Pledge of Allegiance led by Commissioner Mike Smith and a prayer led by Commission President Eric Vincent.
Following the approval of the Fiduciary Report from County Clerk Neil A. Archer, II and the Exonerations from Assessor Lisa Jackson, Commission President Vincent asked for the acceptance of a change order, requested by Magistrate Dotson, for the Judicial Building. Vincent explained after a walk through with representatives from McKinley Architecture, the commissioners agreed a change was needed to accommodate any future handicap requirements. The approved change will direct McKinley Architecture to add an elevated area around the bench enhancing the access.
Mr. Vincent also approached the Commissioners for their approval of the appointment of John Parson, a Paden City resident, to the Public Defenders Corp Board of Directors for a three-year term, effective immediately to expire on June 30, 2023. Mr. Parson was unanimously approved.
The commission also set the dates for the upcoming budget workshops. It was stated that the 2022/2023 budgets need to be completed and submitted to the State by March 28th. Dates for the workshops are March 17th and 18th.
Under Public Comment, Josh Fulks, E-911 Center Director, informed the Commissioners that construction of the new tower at the facility would begin the week of February 21, weather permitting.
Following the approval to pay the bills the meeting was adjourned. The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Tyler County Commission is Tuesday. March 8th at 9 a.m. in the Chambers of the Courthouse.
