Tyler County Commission Meets in Regular Session
The Tyler County Commission met in regular session on Tuesday, March 8, 2022, at 9 a.m. in the courthouse chambers. Following a prayer and Pledge of Allegiance, the minutes of the February 22, 2022, meeting were approved. Also approved was the Fiduciary Report from County Clerk Neil A Archer II and Exonerations from Assessor Lisa Jackson.
First up on the agenda was Prosecuting Attorney Luke Furbee discussing approval of Wendy Greve, Pullin, Fowler, Flanigan Brown and Poe, PLLC, as counsel for the commission per West Virginia code 7-4-3. Mr. Furbee expressed that a conference call was needed and recommended the county commission move to executive session for that call. The commissioners approved the executive session at 9:08 AM. The regular session of the meeting resumed at 9:52 a.m. and a motion to hire counsel was approved.
Eric Vincent, Commission President, approached the commissioners on two change orders for the judicial building. The first being construction of the addition of a steel beam and second, a water meter with a combined cost of $1702.20. Commissioners approved the change orders.
Commissioner Vincent then asked for approval to renew the Cisco Router from Smartnet for a period of three years. The request was approved.
Continuing Mr. Vincent then asked commissioners to approve a civil service board appointment for the Tyler County Sheriff’s Association of Rodney Dean Pratt to a four-year term effective immediately through December 2025. Mr. Pratt will be replacing Andy Weekley. Approval was granted.
Also approved was a change of dates for the budget workshops to Wednesday, March 16th and Thursday, March 17th.
The commissioners then read an email from McKinley Associates regarding a change order for the raised platform needed in the judge’s chambers of the judical building at a cost of $18,960.68. There were other issues that needed to be discussed so the matter was tabled until more information could be gathered.
Josh Fulks E-911 Director reported to the commissioners that Friday at midnight they lost all phone lines and were down until late Sunday. He is requesting the need for cell phones to keep in the E-911 center for emergencies. The commissioners approved his request. Mr. Fulks also would like to hire summer help for mowing at the E-911 center and at the tower sites. Commissioners approved his request.
A discussion was held regarding the location of the Tyler County Home Memorial. Mike Smith, County Commissioner, reported that after discussions with the Tyler County Fair Board and the Tyler County Board of Education the site is pretty much in the same location that was flagged previously. Lance Hickman stated that it is still on his to do list to get the County Surveyor to get the lines straightened out. Commissioner approved the placement of the monument.
Under public comment it was announced that the Tyler County Ham, Bacon & Egg sale is Saturday March 12, 2022, beginning at 1pm at Tyler Consolidated High School.
Following the approval to pay the bills the meeting was adjourned. The next County Commission meeting is scheduled for March 22, 2022 at 9 a.m.
