Lady Knights Take Game One of the Sectional

The Tyler Consolidated Lady Knights won their opening game of the Class A Region One Section 2 tournament defeating Clay Battelle 42-20 before a nice crowd and pumped up student section. The Lady Knights avenged an earlier defeat to the Cee Bees with a stifling defense and strong offensive performance. The Knights jumped out to a quick 10 to 2 lead after the first eight minutes led by Juliana Lattea scoring the games first four points and extended that lead to 16-5 at halftime. It was more of the same in the second half as Tyler continued their offensive dominance outscoring Clay Battelle 26-15.
Defensively the Silver Knights were able to hold Doddridge leading score Liv Ammons, who last time they met poured in a game high 27 points, to only three points on the night.
Leading the way for the Knights was Juliana Lattea with 10 points and 16 rebounds and Braeden Wall also scoring 10 and adding eight rebounds. They were followed by Caleigh Phillips with seven points and seven steals, Lauren Templeton with six and Landry Buchanan four. Clay Battelle was led by Raylee Hennen with nine points.
“Girls played their hearts out on Defense holding their top scorer to 3 total points in Liv Ammons, one of the best in high school. We need that same intensity Thursday against Doddridge,” said Coach Phillips.
The Lady Knights will next travel to Doddridge for the 2nd round of the sectional on Thursday, February 24.
TCHS Girls Basketball Lose at Doddridge
The Lady Knights of Tyler Consolidated traveled to Doddridge County on February 24 to take on the Bulldogs in the Class A Region 1 Section 2 girls sectional. After defeating Clay Battelle on Tuesday with a stifling defense and strong offensive game, the road was a little tougher on Thursday. The Lady Bulldogs. led by Abby McDonough who went over the 1000 point total for her career, jumped out to a 23-12 halftime lead and continued to hold the Knights at bay in the second half coming away with a 50-32 victory. Juliana Lattea led the Knights with 11 points and eight rebounds followed by Caleigh Phillips with seven points and six rebounds. Landry Buchanan ended the night with six points. The next opponent for the Silver Knights is a tough trip to Cameron to face off with the state ranked Dragons.
