Duffle Bags for the Homeless Veterans
Legion Riders Post 67 Deliver Duffle Bags to Homeless Veterans
The Ohio Valley Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, (NSDAR), has recently teamed up with the Legion Riders from the American Legion Post #67 to assist in caring for the homeless veterans of West Virginia.
This project began when Frannie Weekley asked the question how the NSDAR could help the veterans. After several conversations between the two groups, the Legion Riders explained they often took donated items in bags for the homeless veterans to sort and take anything they needed with them if they could carry it. It soon became apparent the vets needed something to transport and store their newly acquired items in conveniently. Frannie designed a small 18-inch duffle bag with lots of pockets and one strap that can be thrown over the shoulder to make it easy to stow and go.
Chapter members and veterans have donated blue jeans, zippers, and Velcro to make the bags. Then both groups together collected needed items to fill the bags. The Legion Riders will be delivering the much-needed duffels to the homeless vets, and this project will be ongoing until there is no longer a need.
