SEAN WINFREY RECORDS HIS 100TH WIN
Last Wednesday the team competed in a home tri-match against South Harrison and Marietta. The Knights would fall in the first match to South Harrison but rebound nicely against Marietta, never losing a single match in the team victory. The biggest highlight of the night was Sean Winfrey who gained his 100th victory becoming the 6th Tyler Consolidated Knight to achieve this feat. 100 wins in wrestling is what is comparable to 1,000 yards in football and 1,000 points in Basketball. Sean will now set his sights on the All-Time win record of 116 which is currently held by Tyler Consolidated alumni Cory Chipps.
Over the weekend the team traveled to Alexander High School for the R. J. Sochia Memorial Tournament. Twenty-Three teams competed in this large event. Wesley Kelly led the charge for the Knights as he went 3-0 and was crowned 113-pound Champion. “Wesley has a lot of tools and I have been telling him that all season. He was finally able to put everything together and it paid off in a big way,” explained Coach McKeever. Colsen Spragg also had another powerful day but fell short of winning his 2nd title in as many weeks as he was the runner-up in the 126-pound class. Gideon Winfrey had a great day as well winning 4 matches to just one close setback. Gideon placed 5th in his weight class. Luke Yoho and Marques Jackson would both finish 6th in their respective weight classes.
The Knights are looking ahead to the 2nd half of the season as they head to Lewis County for a quad-match. “The upcoming weeks are going to get us prepared for the regional tournament. I am hopeful and confident we can rally as a team and put on a respectful showing in our wrestling meets ahead,” said the first year head coach who has been enthusiastic about his team’s chances and chemistry.
