The Tyler Consolidated Silver Knights football team traveled to Frontier High School on Friday, June 19 to compete in the seven on seven scrimmage and lineman challenge. Six TCHS lineman participated in several events against 12 other schools. Events included bench press, tire flip, 40 yard dash, sled push, and heavy ball toss. The Knights performed well against several larger schools and continued to work on strength and conditioning. The seven on seven offensive scrimmage consisted of passes only with several Knights excelling again against some larger schools. Coach Kyle Ritz and his staff are working on finding the right combination to lead the Knights this fall.

TCHS head football coach Kyle Ritz shared his feelings about his squad’s performance. “As far as 7v7 and lineman challenges go, the main goal for us is to compete. We went in with the mindset that we were going to leave there better than we showed up in one way or another.”

Coach Ritz went on to say he saw several bright spots on both sides of the ball, and he and his coaches got to see things that the team did well, giving them some momentum in preparation for the season. “We also spotted several things that we will fix. But, there’s no regular game planning for these events so we saw sets, formations, and play types that we don’t typically see in gameplay. Our kids and staff did an excellent job adjusting and picking up the changes on the run and did a solid job.”

Coach Ritz especially liked the lineman challenge. “Most of the time it has very little to do with football, but everything to do with being a successful football team. 5 guys clicking together, competing, and finding a way to get a job done. Our guys did exactly what we wanted them to do there, and they finished with a 4th place overall finish.”

Overall, the TCHS football coaching staff was pleased with the performance of their players. “We are happy for our players’ attitudes and competitiveness, but we all know that the work is not done, and these events are just to help prepare us for the 2026 football season!”
