Tyler Season Ends with Loss
The Silver Knights baseball season came to a heartbreaking end on Saturday, May 23 at the hands of the Weirton Red Riders in the WVSSAC Class AA Region 1 tournament by the score of 2-1. With the score tied 1-1 headed to the seventh inning the Red Riders would walk off the Knights scoring one run in the bottom of the seventh to secure the victory. The Knights got on the board in the top of the first scoring one run on a Landon Boggs single but were not able to cross home plate the rest of the game. Boggs was the big bat for the Knights going three for three with the one RBI. Weir would tie the game in the bottom of the fifth setting up the dramatic winner in the seventh. Brayden Neff, Grady Shortridge and Patrick Jones each chipped in with one hit. Reese Davis suffered the loss on the mound going the distance striking out three Red Riders.
“We felt like this year was a year we could compete with the best teams around the state with the understanding we would have growing pains with our youth movement. I think from game 1 to game 33 we were the most improved team in our area. The program is in great shape with the young players we have. The dedication, hard nosed determination, and passion of our 3 seniors will be greatly missed as we move forward,” said Head Coach Rob Jones.
The Silver Knights finished the season with an overall record of 15-18.
Weir will now advance to the regional finals against Wheeling Central with the winner advancing to the state tournament in Charleston.
