Knights Split Doubleheader with Poca
The Silver Knights played host to the Poca Dots on Saturday, March 21 and split a double header in baseball action. Game one saw the visitors score early and often but the Knights kept the came close trailing 4-3 after two innings. The Silver Knights would add two runs in the fourth to pull ahead 4-3. The back and forth affair saw the Dots score two runs in the top of fifth with the Knights answering with one run in the bottom of the fifth to tie the score 6-6 heading to the sixth inning. The sixth inning was all Silver Knights as they scored four runs to lead 10-6 heading to the seventh inning. Poca would not go away scoring three runs in the top of the seventh only to fall one run short 10-9.
Leading the offense for the Knights was Reese Davis going three for four, scoring three runs with two RBIs. Brayden Neff followed with one hit and two RBIs, Grady Shortridge had one hit and one RBI. Ashton Morris, Sawyer Kunkle, and Pierson Hayes all chipped in with one hit apiece. Ashton Morris would pitch six strong innings striking out 12 Poca Dots and picking the win on the mound.
Game two was a different story for the Knights as they fell 21-10 to the visiting Dots. Poca jumped out to an 11-5 lead after three innings but the Knights answered with five runs in the fourth but would get no closer as Poca added three in the fourth and five in the fifth to take the victory. Landon Boggs and Grady Shortridge each had two hits. Only four other Knights would add to the hit column with one hit apiece. The Silver and Black would use four freshman pitchers against Poca. Pierson Hayes, Grady Shortridge, Kaden Cross and Patrick Jones would combine to strike out seven but surrendered 18 walks on the day.
