Magnolia Picks Up Road Win Over Tyler Consolidated

Visiting Magnolia edged out a close victory over homestanding Tyler on Monday night, January 31, to get a hardfought 52-50 win before a nice crowd at TCHS. The game was a back and forth affair all night with the Silver Knights going up 18-14 after the first quarter , however the Blue Eagles responded with a 15-10 second period to take a 29-28 lead at the half. Magnolia won the third period 9-8 to lead 38-36 heading into the final eight minutes. Both team hit for 14 in the forth quarter giving the Blue Eagles the victory.
Magnolia received a steller performance from senior guard Trevor Wiliamson who had the hot hand and hit for a game high 22 points including three from beyond the arc and a 5-5 showing from the free throw line. Backing him up was Damon Shimp who poured in 17 markers including a three pointer. Shimp also collected 10 rebounds to get a double-double for his night’s work.
The Silver Knights received a nice performance from senior Caleb Strode who hit two 3-pointers on his way to a team high 15 points, while also clearing the boards with 14 rebounds. Senior guard Haygen Baker also hit in twin digits adding 11 points to the Knights scorecard.
Conner Bailey chipped in with nine markers and added eight rebounds. Freshman Brady Strode hit for six points and Carson Gorby added four, while Brody Seckman had two and Zach Morris added a bucket.
Magnolia also received six points from Hayden Pyles, four from Brady Kocher, and three fro Kaden Johnson. The Blue Eagles hit 19 field goals including five from the three point line and made 7-10 from the free throw line. The Knights hit 17 from the floor including four 3-pointers, while making 12-14 from the free throw line.
In JV action Tyler defeated Magnolia by the score of 64-37. Tyler was led in scoring by Garon Broughman and Sage Landis each with 16 points. Magnolia was led by J.D. Mensore with 12.
TCHS Takes Down Clay Battelle
Tyler Consolidated boys basketball team made the long trip to Clay Battelle on February 2nd worth their time claiming a hard fought 59-56 win over the home standing CeeBees. Tyler opened the first quarter leading 19-16 and extended the lead at halftime to 39-26. The second half saw Clay Battelle battle back but it was to late to overcome the Knights.
TCHS hit on six 3 pointers from the floor with Brady Strode, Conner Bailey, Brody Seckman and Caleb Strode all scoring a three point bucket. Carson Gorby had two 3 pointers for the Silver Knights.
Leading the scoring for the Knights was Caleb Strode with 23 points hitting on 10 of 14 attempts from the foul line followed by Brady Strode with nine, Conner Baileywith nine and four for four from the charity stripe, Carson Gorby nine points and Haygen Baker with six.
Clay Battelle had three players in double figures. Colby Barr led all scorers with 24 points followed by teammates Preston Luzader adding 13 and Michael Payton contributing 15.
The Silver Knights next will host St Marys on February 4th.
TCHS Hosts St Marys in the 4th Annual Matt Boggs Memorial Matchup
Tyler Consolidated Silver Knights boys basketball team hosted the undefeated St. Mary’s Blue Devils on Saturday night February 5 in the annual Matt Boggs Memorial Matchup. The game, originally scheduled for Friday night February 4, was moved to Saturday due to school closings.
The Silver Knights came out strong in the first quarter only trailing by five. St. Mary’s used a big second quarter to extend the lead to 30-16 at the half. The Blue Devils continued their hot shooting in the second half and closed out the game with a 58-37 victory. The Knights were led in scoring by Haygen Baker with 12 points followed closely by Carson Gorby with nine and Caleb Strode with eight. St. Mary’s defense held Caleb to only eight points well below his season average of 21.The Blue Devils were led by Grant Barnett with a game high 26 points.
