Knights Take Down The Lumberjills

Lauren Templeton Scores Two of her Game High 25 vs Valley
Valley High School hosted cross county rival Tyler Consolidated on Monday night, January 3, in girls high school basketball action. The home team Lumberjills came out in the first quarter and took a two point 11-9 lead after eight minutes of play, but from there the visiting Silver Knights proved to be rude guests as they outscored Valley 14-4 in the second frame to gain the lead for good and go into halftime up nine 23-14.
Doing most of the damage for the Knights was senior pivot Lauren Templeton as she controlled the middle getting a a game high 25 points and hauling down 14 rebounds for a huge double-double for her nights work. Valley’s super sophomore Winter Higgins hit for a team high 17 points for the Lumberjills including a 3-pointer, and a 4-7 showing at the free throw line. She was backed by senior Kimberly Soles with eight markers including two from three point land.
After the halftime break Tyler came out on fire and with high intensity to control the third quarter 19-8 and put the game out of reach, although Valley rallied in the fourth frame for a 13-10 advantage it wasn’t enough and the visitors went home with the victory. Braeden Wall and Landry Buchanan both added seven points for the Silver Knights and senior standout guard Caleigh Phillips hit for six. Phillips and Buchanan each hit a 3-pointer on the night. Mallory Westbrook hit 3-4 from the charity stripe for her points and Havannah Lemasters ended with four markers to round out the Knights scoring.
Valley sophomore Evalena Booher canned five points with a basket and 3-4 from the free throw line. Harli Rush added four points all from the free throw line going 4-6, and Cheyanne Higgins hit a field goal for two points.
As a team the Silver Knights hit 20 shots from the floor including two 3-pointers, but only made 10-24 from the free throw line. They led in rebounds 28-16 and caused 16 turnovers.
Valley hit 11 field goals including three from beyond the arc, and had a nice showing hitting 13-17 from the charity stripe.
The Silver Knights next host Williamstown in a make up game on Wednesday January 5.
Williamstown 66, Tyler Consolidated 33
Tyler Consolidated girls basketball hosted Williamstown on Tuesday, January 4 in a make up game scheduled for earlier this year. After a nip and tuck first quarter, Williamstown got the ball rolling with 20 second quarter points then out scored Tyler 32-13 in the second half to secure its second win of the season. Freshman Faith Pickens, who scored 11 points in the junior varsity game, led the Yellow Jackets with 16 points.
Tyler was led in scoring by Caleigh Phillips and Lauren Templeton each scoring eight points. Also scoring for Tyler was a Landry Buckhannon with three points,Leah Loudin two points,Briann Templeton one point, Braeden Wall five points and Havannah Lemasters finishing the scoring for Tyler with six points. The Silver Knights will host Clay Battelle on Thursday January 6.
