By Randy Rutherford - Sports Writer | Oct 5, 2021

Trenton Huffman Goes Over the Top for a Completion

Tyler Consolidated’s defense dominated the Wirt County Tigers on Friday night September 24, in Elizabeth, West Virginia.

For the Silver Knights it was their second shut out in five games and the offense continued its strong showing behind the running of Sean Winfrey and the receiving of Jayden Helmick to lead the Silver Knights to a 38-0 victory.

Defensively the Knights were led by Case Landis, Ty Walton, Caleb Strode, Sean Winfrey and Jayden Helmick. Helmick led the defense for the Silver Knights with five tackles and two interceptions followed closely by Sean Winfrey with four tackles and two assists.

Ty Walton, Chase Landis, and Caleb Strode each had two tackles and two assists.

Jayden Helmick got the offense started when he took a pass from Trenton Huffman and scampered 95 yards for the first score of the game to put Tyler up 6- 0. Sean Winfrey ran in the two point conversion to make the score 8-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Tyler would extend the lead in the second quarter as Sean Winfrey would find the end zone twice with Jayden Helmick running in the two point conversion on both touchdowns making the score 24-0 at the half.

Things would only get worse for the Tigers in the second half as Winfrey and Helmick again combined for two touchdowns and two point conversions and a Huffman two point conversion pass to Helmick to bring the final score to 38-0.

On the night Wirt was held to 171 yards of total offense while the Knights racked up 392 yards. Huffman was 8 of 10 for 142 yards passing. Winfrey rushed for 153 yards on 30 carries and Helmick had 63 yards on 11 attempts. Caleb Strode caught two passes for eight yards and Helmick had three catches for 125 yards.

“The kids are responding well to being coached and improving on their fundamentals. This allows us to extend the opportunities when game planning. The assistant coaches are doing an excellent job of game planning and connecting with the players. It is nice to be on a three game win streak. We will use our off week to mentally and physically rest a little before preparing for Buffalo,” said Coach Walton

The Silver Knights head into their bye week this Friday, but will be back in action on Oct 8, at home vs Buffalo.
