Silver Knights Show Class In Loss
The story line and stats from Friday night’s game in Kidwell between Tyler Consolidated and Doddridge take a backseat to the class shown by the players and student body of Tyler Consolidated. Prior to the game 13 flags were brought onto the field by Silver Knight players and placed in a memorial to the 13 serviceman killed in Afghanistan during the withdrawal.
Following the game a tradition at Tyler Consolidated is for the student body to form a tunnel to walk off the players. Tyler Consolidated student section displayed a great representation of what it means to be a decent, kind-hearted human being.
The students formed their tunnel by standing and cheering the Silver Knights after a disappointing loss. But that wasn’t the end of the story. They also extended the same courtesy to the Doddridge players. In the words of one of the Doddridge County coaches, “These kids are a class act!” We couldn’t agree more.
The Silver Knights ran into a stingy defense on Friday night being held to only 124 total yards of offense and going down to defeat by the score of 28-16.
The Knights had their chances as a result of turnovers by the Bulldogs, however, they were not able to convert inside the red zone early in the first half and again in the second half when they drove into the red zone after a turnover but came away with no points. Doddridge was deliberate in their offense gaining 272 yards on the ground while attempting only one pass which was incomplete. The Silver Knights, after falling behind, were forced to go to the air to try to catch up. Trenton Huffman threw for 82 yards completing seven passes on 16 attempts and two touchdowns. Caleb Strode and Jayden Helmick each caught touchdown passes for the Knights. Sean Winfrey led the rushing with 27 yards on 12 carries. Doddridge moved their record to 2-0 while the Silver Knights fell to 0-2. Tyler Consolidated will go for their first win of the season on Friday September 10 when they travel to South Harrison for a 7:30 kickoff.
