Coach Brent Croasmun Earns 400th Career Victory for Paden City

The Wildcats baseball team traveled to Beallsville, Ohio, on Tuesday Night, May 11, with two goals in mind. Number one win the ball game which would also accomplish the second, earn coach Croasmun his 400th victory at the Wildcat helm. The Cats got the job done, mission accomplished, via a 16-3 win over the Blue Devils.

Paden City’s Alec Chaplin picked up the win firing seven strikeouts over five innings. He also stood big at the plate with three singles, and a double plus an RBI. Brandon Hizer also added three hits with a single, double and a triple, accounting for four RBI for the Cats.

Paden City puts up tough battle at Doddridge

Doddridge County slipped by Paden City in a tight contest on Wednesday night to get an 8-7 victory on the home field. The Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning , but the Wildcats came back big in the top of the third to go up 6-2. Doddridge plated a run in the bottom of the inning to make it 6-3, however the Cats came right back with one of their own in the top of the fourth to regain a four run edge.

The home team oicked up another run in the bottom of the fifth to make it 7-4, then in the bottom of the seventh they added four runs to get the win. Paden City had five hits in the contest and committed three erros while the Bulldogs got six hits and committed three errors.

Paden City starting pitcher Hunter Fletcher threw five innings giving up four runs, striking out four batters and walking three. Will McGinnis took the loss pitching one and two thirds innings, giving up four runs, striking out three and walking two.

Jim Spadaore was the starter for the Bulldogs, but Tim Eddy got the win pitching five innings, striking out seven and offering no walks.

For the Wildcats Alec Chapman got two hits, Scott Lavoie had a single and a RBI. Dustin Southerly singled in a run and Joey Baker got an RBI on a fielders choice.

Wildcats five inning Valley

On Thursday the Wildcats hit the road for Pine Grove and came home on the winning side of a 20-9 five inning mercy rule ball game. The Cats jumped out to an early first inning 6-1 lead, but Valley closed the gap some in the second scoring six runs to Paden City’s four to make it 10-7 after two.

Both teams added a run in the third, but the Cats scored nine runs over the next two innings with eight coming in the top of the fifth. Valley plated another in the bottom of the fifth but the mercy rule kicked in and the Cats left town with a big win.

Joey Baker was the starter for the Cats throwing one inning with no strikeouts and walking six. Brandon Hizer came on in relief in the second and got the win striking out seven and walking two. Logan Bassett took the loss for Valley who used five different pitchers in the contest but couldn’t quell the Wildcat bats.

Paden City got two RBI and a double from Ashton Little, and an RBI double from Scott Lavoie. ustin Southerly added two singles, while Liam Clements got a single and a RBI. Brandon Hizer helped his own cause driving in four runs and adding a single. Hunter Fulks also added two RBI.

Valley got singles from Gavin Goodrich and Eli Stackpole.

Wildcats fall in close one on the road at Clay Battelle

Paden City made the joourney to Clay Battelle on Friday, May 14, and nearly got another victory as they battled the Cee Bee’s to the finish before losing a heartbreaker 6-5. The Wildcat plated three runs in the top of the second to take an early lead, but the home squad got two in the bottom of the third to draw close. Doddridge then added three in the bottom of the fifth for a 5-3 lead, however the Cats clawed back with two in the top of the sixth to tie the game. The Cee Bee’s added a run in the bottom of the seventh with no outs to get the win.

Paden City starting pitcher Will McGinnis threw six innings striking out 10 batters while offering six walks in a strong outing. Alec Champman came on in relief in the seventh and took the loss.IChaplin pitched to 3 batters in the bottom of the 7th, Ken StClair got on base with an error, Greg Statler got on base on an infield single, both runners advance on a wild pitch, Ben Coen lined a single to left center to end game.

Clay Battelle used three pitchers in the contest with Luke Nester getting the win in relief in the seventh inning while striking out none and walking two.

Alec Chaplin had a single, and 2rbi , Dustin Southerly hit 2 singles, and Liam Clements got 1 rbi on a fielders choice.
