Wildcats fall to Meadow Bridge in WVHIT Game
Meadow Bridge jumped ahead of the Wildcats 15-8 at the end of the first quarter in Paden City, on Saturday, and played mostly even the rest of the way to get a 71-65 victory over the home team in a WVHITgame.
After a cold start and falling behind the Cats recovered in the second quarter to cut the lead to four, 37-31 at the half. Both teams hit for 17 in the third, but the visitors the out scored the Cats 18-17 in the final period.
Senior pivot Ty Cain hit for a game high 27 points, including two 3’s, while pulling down seven rebounds. Backing Cain on the night was sophomore Joel Moore who poured in 24 points, with a three. He also came up with six steals in the contest. Senior Carson Palmer added six points on two field goals and a free throw. He also had four rebounds and two steals.
Shane Anderson ended with four points and five rebounds, while Brandon Hizer contributed two points, four steals, and five rebounds. Joey Baker rounded out the scoring with two points for the Cats. The Wildcats hit 20 field goals in the game including four from beyond the arc. They also went 21-31 from the free throw line, and had 23 rebounds as a team.
Meadow Bridge had four players in double figures with Logan Hatfield tossing in 23 to lead the way. Hunter Claypool added 19, while Caiden Conner had 11 and Ryan Cooper added 10. The loss dropped the Wildcats to 6-3 on the season
Paden City grabs win over Wood County
The Wildcats traveled to Williamstown on Tuesday, March 23, for a battle with Wood County Christian and came home winners with a 61-46 thumping of the home team.
The Cats took an early first quarter lead of 19-16 and never trailed on their way to the victory. Sophomore guard Joel Moore turned in double-double on the night as he poured in a game high 31 points which included two 3-pointers and a 5-6 showing from the free throw line. Moore also collared 10 rebounds, while recording four steals, four blocks and four assists to highlight the win.
Senior Ty Cain came through with ample support nearly getting his fifth double-double of the season with nine points and 11 rebounds. Brandon Hizer gave a good effort adding eight points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals, while Joey Baker grabbed five rebounds scored six points, and added two assists. Hunter Fulks also provided good support with three points, three boards and four assists. Shane Anderson added two baskets for four points to round out the scoring.
Paden City improved to 6-2 on the season, they hit 25 field goals and went 8-11 at the free throw line, while pulling down 37 rebounds.
Wood County Christian was led in scoring by Tyler Lanham with 20, while Michael Cline pitched in 15.
