Weber and Winters Head Up All-County Volleyball Team

Captain Hope Weber

The Wetzel Chronicle and Tyler Star News All-County Volleyball Team as selected by the staff at both papers includes a trio of first team All-State players and several other award winners. Heading up the first unit are Captains Mady Winters and Hope Weber. Winters is a three year letter winner at Magnolia high school and a two time All-State selection.

She led the Blue Eagles to the state championship game as a sophomore. She is also an All-OVAC first team selection and has committed to continuing her volleyball career at Wheeling University. She finished her high school career with 1,990 kills, despite missing her junior year due to an injury and having her senior season cut short due to the COVID-19.

Weber has been a force at the net for the Wildcats of Paden City since her freshman season. She is also a two time All-State player, and was named OVAC player of the year in Class A as a freshman. She led the Wildcats to the Championship game of the West Virginia State Tournament her junior season and was awarded a spot on the all-tournament team. She has recorded over 1,000 kills in her high school career, and has led the Cat’s to four consecutive OVAC Championships

Winters – served up a team-high 259-points including 87 service aces, 446 kills, 257-digs and a team-high 148- blocks, during her sophomore season, while she accumulated 159- points with 38-aces, 309-kills, 125-digs and 71-blocks this her senior season. In her three seasons played, Mady scored 782-points with 250 service aces, while colecting 1154 kills, 758-digs and made 320-blocs. She didn’t play any her junior season due to a knee injury sufferd over a year ago, plus losing quite a few matches due to the Corona-virus pademic.

Weber – served-up 159-service points this season with 35-aces, with 150-aces in her career. She blasted 303-kills on the season and 1,687 for her 4-year career, while adding 15-blocks this season and 225 for her career. Weber dished out 213-assists this season, and 489 in her career. She was OVAC 1A Player of the year her freshman season.

First Team honors went to Sr. Lenieca Grimm and Sr. Victoria Hood of Magnolia; Sr. Reagan Smith of Tyler Consolidated; Sr. Mallory Yeater and So. McKenzie Thomas of Paden City; So. Hannah Raper of River, So. Casey Henderson of Hundred High School and Jr. Reagan Dallison from Valley.

Yeater was Miss Everything. She scored 248-points this season with 46-aces, and 240 for her career. At the net she had 192-kills this season and 793 for her career. She had 366 assists this season and 2,008 for her career, while collecting 151-digs and 816 for her career. For good measure she recorded 10-blocks on the season and 55 for her career.

Grimm was the main setter for Magnolia with over 2,000 assists in her career, while Hood complimented Winters at the net with her hitting and over-all play.

Smith was an outstanding player for the Silver Knights, and a four year letter winner having made it to the state tournament her freshman and sophomore seasons. She is a four year letter winner and LKC first team selection. She was an excellent server and hitter as well as setting up the setter. Her senior year she led the Knights in kills, and points served.

Thomas came into her own this season as a libero and back row specialist she is one of the better athletes in the county, and can play most any position when needed. This season she moved to the Libero position for the Wildcats in a defensive move by Coach Yeater. Thomas led the Cat’s in digs this season.

Dallison was the team leader for the Lady ‘Jills at the net with her powerful spikes and blocks. Her ability to guard the net along with her timing on offense made her a threat to opposing teams every time the Lumberjills took the floor. As a server she recorded 87 points and 21 aces.

Henderson led the improved Lady Hornets in about every statistic imaginable. Her serving percentage was a team high and she used her hustle and determination to keep the opposition at bay. At the net she showed good timing and a hard swing to record 83 kills on the year.

Raper was also the heart and soul for the young Lady Pilots squad, making her presence felt in every match played. She was tough at the net and the back row, while keeping the young Pilot team together with her play on and off the floor.

The Lady Knights Jr. Caleigh Phillips and the ‘Cats Jr.Brandis Dalrymple were selected team captains to lead the Second Team selections. Other Second Team honors were, Sr. Sadie Nicholas from Tyler Consolidated; Sr. Zoe Haught of Valley; Jr. Rilyn Haught from River; Jr.Kayla Matthews of Hundred; So. Tanley McEldowney of Paden City; Sr. Alyssa Kocher and Jr. Jaci Rhode from Magnolia, Sr. Maggie Still of Paden City, Landry Buchanan, of Tyler Consolidated
