Coach Summers Gets 600th Win

TC Volleyball Coaches Richard and Tracy Summers get career win.

Tyler Consolidated hosted a Volleyball QuadMatch on Tuesday, October 6, 2020, with Paden City, Gilmer County and Cameron. The Knights took match one in two straight sets from Cameron to start the night, and picked up the win to give Coach Richard Summers his 600th career volleyball victory. Coach Summers and his wife Tracy have been coaching Tyler Consolidated Volleyball at TCHS since the 2000-2001 season.

Caleigh Phillips led the charge with 10 kills on the night, while adding 32 sets, two digs, one point, and 16 assists. She also got two digs and a point. Sadie Nichols served up 12 points, including five aces, and three digs. Caitlyn Northcraft added four points, 15 sets and nine assists in the match and Lindsay Thompson had eight service points, including three aces, plus four kills and a dig. Landry Buchanan had seven service points with two aces, plus three digs, Ryley VanDyne got four kills and a point, Braeden Wall had four kills, Alisa Miller four kills and an assist, Ashlee Soencer five pints with two aces and a dig, Audrey Dennsi three digs, Caitlyn Hayes two kills, and Shayli Kocher one point.

The Silver Knights dropped two straight sets to Paden City in the second game of the Quad, as the Wildcats won both sets 25-16. For The Knights, Phillips agains led the way as she had six kills, four digs, two points, 31 sets and 11 assists. Regan Smith came through with 19 sets, and six assists, while adding two points with an ace and one dig. Nichols hit the floor four eight digs and scored four service points including an ace. Adding to the Knights stat sheet was BraedenWall with three kills and two blocks, Landry Buchanan with three digs, Audrey Dennis with three digs, Lindsay Thompson with three kills, a block, an two points.Ryley VanDyne added two points, a kill and one dig, while Caitlyn Hayes had three kills and one block. Alisa Miller got two kills and a block.

In the loss to Gilmer County the Knights were led by Phillips with 58 sets, 17 assists, six kills, five digs, one point and one block. Sadie Nichols was everywhere with 19 digs, four service points, five sets, and three assists. Landry Buchanan had a big night as she served up 16 points including four aces, while offering up eight digs. Audrey Dennis hit the floor for 10 digs and served up three points. Lindsay Thompson had five kills and two blocks, plus three digs and four points. Braeden Wall got four kills and three blocks at the net, plus three digs. Ryley VanDyne got eight digs, two points and three kills and Alisa Miller had three kills and a pair of blocks. Caitlyn Northcraft had 10 sets and three assists, Ashlee Spencer one point, and Caitlyn Hayes got four kills and a block.

Wirt County gets win over Silver Knights

Tyler hosted defending state champion Wirt County on Thursday, October 8, in volleyball action with the Tigers going home with a hard fought victory, winning in four sets 22-25, 25-19, 29-27, and 25-21. The Knights gave the visitors all they wanted but after winning set one and taking the champs to overtime in set three, they couldn’t get over the hump in set four and fell victim in set four.

The Knights got strong performances from several players with Caleigh Phillips leading the way with 44 sets, 20 assists, 11 digs, 10 points, including two aces, plus 18 kills and four blocks at the net. Regan Smith was close behind with 39 sets, 18 assists, 18 kills, two blocks, four points, two digs, and one ace.

Sadie Nichols scored seven points, with an ace, plus 16 digs. Braeden Wall added a big time four kills and seven huge blocks. Rylee VanDyne scored seven points, added six points, two kills and two aces. Landry Buchanan got six digs and three points, while Audrey Dennis added seven digs. Alisa Miller had two blocks, Ashlee Spencer one point and Maeson Maxwell one dig.
