Wildcats Drop Season Opener To Federal Hocking
Paden City made the long trip to Federal Hocking on Friday night September 4, to open it’s football season in hopes of getting a big win on the road. The home standing Lancers however had other ideas and sent the Wildcats home on the short end of a 50-22 final score.
Paden City kept the game close in the first half and trailed 8-6 after one quarter, the home team however got on the board again in the second quarter to take the lead 14-6 at the break.
Joey Baker went in on a one yard run at the 3:55 mark of the first quarter for the Wildcats first score. The Cat’s went for the two point conversion in an attempt to tie the game, but failed and the Lancers held a two point lead.
The Cat’s gave up 20 unanswered points in the third frame to fall behind 34-6 heading into the fourth. Both teams put 16 points on the board in the fourth to get the final score. Paden City got a 45 yard T.D. run from Baker for his second score of the game and Zane Yeater added the conversion run. Yeater also scored on a three yard run in the quarter and Baker got two more points with the run after.
Baker led the Cat’s with two scores, the conversion run and 120 yards rushing on 13 carries. Yeater picked up 90 yards and a score on 10 carries while also connecting on 3-14 pass attempts for 23 yards. Tobin McEldowney added three yards rushing on his only carry and grabbed two passes for 19 yards. The Wildcats will be at home this week as they host Van High School with kickoff at 7 p.m.
