Blue Devils Take Down Silver Knights
At St. Marys High School gymnasium on Wednesday 26, February 26, the Blue Devils (14-8) ended the Silver Knight girls basketball season with an opening round win in the Class A, Region 1, Section 2, 72-30. The Knights only trailed 14-7 after one quarter, but had trouble getting the ball up court with the Blue Devils constant full court pressure. Coach Tom Phillips took his squad to the locker room trailing 31-19.
St. Marys came out in the third quarter and outscored the Knights 24-6, to push the lead out to 55-25 heading to the fourth stanza. Coach Meeks Blue Devils cruised on to the convincing victory. He emptied his bench to give the younger players some time on the floor midway through the fourth frame.
Tyler ended their season at (7-17), with only two seniors on this year’s team. They were led in scoring by Lauren Templeton with seven points, Allie Miller added six, Summer Miller chipped in five, Regan Smith with four and to round out the scoring were Caleigh Phillips, Romana Rice, Caitlyn Northcraft, and Landry Buchanan with two.
For the victorious Devils, Lara Fetty took game high scoring honors with 17 markers, nine coming from the foul line. Kylie Wright backed up Fetty with 11 and Alexis Hashman chipped in 10. St. Marys picked up win number fourteen and improved to (14-8) on the season.
Tyler only hit on 10-52 shots for 19 percent from the floor, while St. Marys canned 21-46 for 45 percent. Both teams hit a 3-pointer in the contest. The Silver Knights collared 36 rebounds to the Blue Devils grabbed 27.
Allie Miller added two steals for the Knights while Phillips picked up two assists. Templeton was the games leading rebounder with seven. St. Marys advanced to play Ritchie County on Friday night against Ritchie County who knocked Magnolia out in a 42-38 O.T. game.
