Knights fall to Wirt County

Tyler Consolidated was at a disadvantage from the start as one of their senior leaders Mark Rucker was missing from the lineup due to a scheduled visit to Old Dominion University for a possible football offer. However the Silver Knights still played on as they visited the Wirt County Tigers in boys basketball action.

The Knights dropped a 63-40 decision on Friday night, January 24, as they had trouble all night getting the ball in the basket hitting just 14 field goals and making 10-19 free throw opportunities. Noah Swiger was the top point producer for Tyler with nine points while Justin Bowman was next with seven including a three ball and Gage Huffman and Caleb Strode each added six markers as they spread the points around. David Throckmorton and Zack Placer pitched in four points each. Gavin Morris and Garrett Littell both finished with two points.

The Knights fell behind 33-18 at the halfway point and couldn’t make up any ground in the third or fourth periods as they dropped the 23 point game to fall to (3-10) on the season and (0-7) in LKC play.

Wirt County who jumped it’s record to (5-8) and (1-6) in the LKC with the win had three twin-figure scorers in the contest, led by the games leading scorer Kyler Carper with 21 points, 16 rebounds and four blocked shots. Justin Windland added 18 points and Nathan Murray hit for 11 for the Tigers.
