The Knights girls got a much needed win over Valley high school on Saturday, in the consolation game of the Boggs Roundball Classic. The Silver Knights led by sophmore guard Caleigh Phillips took an 18-14 first quarter lead and was only clinging to a one point 44-43 advantage heading into the fourth quarter.
However, the Knights outscored the Lumberjills 23-16 in the last eight minutes to pick up their third win of the season over Wetzel County girls. Lauren Templeton provided the Knights with a good inside presence and came up with 17 markers and nine rebounds. Adding to the Silver Knights win was Lanry Buchanan who played a solid floor game and finished with nine points. Summer Miller also chipped in with nine points and had six rebounds. Kelsey Vandruff added some needed support for the Silver Knights with nine points. Regan Smith chipped in with four and six rebounds. Allie Miller finished the scoring by adding two points.
The Lumberjills had the games high scorer in Kim Soles’ who netted 21 points, while Shyanne Morre added 10 points and Jamie West garnered eight. Addison Brown also canned eight points and Regan Dallison hit for four markers, as did McKinley Yoho. Rachel Bates and Anddrea Thomas each hit for two.
The Silver Knights hit 21 field goals in the contest and went 25-45 from the free throw line. The Lumberjills hit 20 field goals including two 3-pointers and made 17-25 from the free throw line. The Silver Knights now stand at 3-10 on the season.
Magnolia tops Silver Knights 46-30
Tyler Consolidated made it a game for three quarters on Thursday night, January 16, against Magnolia in the semi-final game of the Boggs Roundball Classic at Tyler Consolidated. However, Kyndra Pilant and the Blue Eagles turned it up a notch in the fourth frame to outscore the Knights 15-2 to get the victory.
The Silver Knights went up 10-8 after the first eight minutes but Magnolia won the second quarter 16-12 to take a two point halftime lead.they wouldn’t relinquish. The Blue Eagles won the third quarter 7-6 for a three point lead heading into the final eight minutes.
Pilant scored 24 points for the Blue to finish as the games top scorer. She connected on 12-14 free throws and hit for five baskets. Top scorer for the Silver Knights was Lauren Templeton who hit seven baskets and went 1-2 from the free throw line for 15 points.
Backing Pilant in scoring for Magnolia was LaraAnn Smith with nine markers on three 3-pointers. Holland Estep scored six points. Reagan Hale hit four points, Leneica Grimm hit a basket and Audry Cross added a free throw.
For the Silver Knights Caleigh Phillips knocked in six points, Landry Buchanan hit two buckets, Allie Miller drained a three and Summer Miller went 2-4 from the free throw line.
The Blue Eagles hit 14 field goals and made 17-23 free throws while the Knights canned 12 from the floor and hit on 5-11 from the foul line.
The Silver Knights fell to 2-9 on the season with the loss.
