Blue Eagles Battle to Boggs Victory

The Magnolia boys’ basketball team, coaches and support staff pose for a photo following a win in the championship game of the Boggs Roundball Classic in Kidwell.

Magnolia used a strong third quarter to put away a tough Liberty team on Saturday at Tyler Consolidated high school in the Boggs Roundball Classic championship game.

The Blue Eagles rode the back of Q. Turner’s 25 points to get the win, while Jake Gamble hit for 20 points and Trevor Williamson added 15.

Gamble and Williamson have been on fire lately and Turner has played sensational as they won the semi-final over Tyler to make it to the championship match. Liberty had defeated Valley on Friday to punch their way into the finals.

The first quarter saw Liberty take aone point lead 17-16, but the Eagles came back strong with a 16-10 second quarter to go up five at the half.

The third period was all Magnolia as they doubled up on Liberty 28-14 to cruise to the win.

The Blue Eagles got five 3-pointers from Williamson, while Gamble knocked down four. Turner had three slams during the game and collared nine rebounds. Also adding to the win for the Blue was Chase Glover who hit a basket and went 2-2- from the free throw line and grabbed six rebounds in limited play.

Trent Schiebelhood and Gavin Postlethwait each added four points. Cambell Toman added a basket for two points.

The Blue Eagles improved to 11-2 with the win. They made 31 field goals and connected on 3-6 from the free throw line.

Liberty was led by Jones with 20, while Holden and Dodd each hit for 12.
