Tyler Unable to Hold Off MHS

It was nip and tug nearly the whole game but Magnolia pulled away in the last two minutes to get a 48-36 win over Tyler Consolidated on Monday, December 30, in New Martinsville before a near packed house. There was six lead changes in the first quarter with the Blue Eagles coming out on top 12-10 at the end of the quarter.

Kyndra Pilant scored a game high 25 points and hauled in 13 rebounds for a double-double to lead Magnolia to the win. She hit 12 points in the first half and never slowed down adding 14 in the second half on a variety of drives to the basket, and short jumpers, while connecting on 11-15 free throws. Lenieca Grimm hit for seven markers in support which included two 3-pointers. Magnolia went to the free throw line 22 times and sank 13 of their attempts.

Audrey Cross and LaraAnn Smith each had five points and a 3-pointer, while Abigal Clegg hit a three and Holland Estep knocked in a bank shot and grabbed eight rebounds.

The Silver Knights had two double figure scorers with Regan Smith and Lauren Templeton each hitting 10 points and Templeton getting nine rebounds. Smith was the only Silver Knight to make it to the free throw line and ended with an 8-10 showing.

Caleigh Phillips added six points and had three assists plus two steals. Landry Buchanan and Summer Miller each hit two baskets for four points and Miller grabbed seven rebounds. Templeton also was credited with two blocks on the night. Romana Rice added two points to round out the Silver Knights scoring.

Magnolia won every quarter, but the 18-8 fourth period proved to be the difference as they led by 30-28 after three. The Knights fell to 1-6 on the season while Magnolia improved to 3-5.
