TC Falls To Van

By Staff | Dec 18, 2019

Expectations were high as the Knights prepared for the start of the 2019-20 basketball season. However 16 missed free throws doomed Tyler Consolidated on opening day December 14, as they dropped a 67-55 decision to Van.

Coach Steve Nutter’s squad jumped on top 13-10 coming out of the gate, but it was short lived as they went ice cold in the second quarter and Van outscored them 23-12 to take a halftime lead of 33-25 and never trail again to get the win.

The Bulldogs put up 34 second half points while holding the Knights to 3. Van was led by Jacob Jerrell and David Stewart with 23 and 22 points respectively. Silver Knights senior guard Gage Huffman paced the home team with 17 points, eight rebounds and three assists. Mark Rucker, Justin Bowman and freshman Caleb Strode each hit for 10 markers. Rucker also recorded four steals and Bowman added nine rebounds.

Zach Placer and David Throckmorton each had four points. The Silver Knights won the junior varsity game 74-45 with Conner Bailey leading the way with 18 points. Carson Gorby and Braden Tallman both added 10 to the team total.
