Knights’ Phillips, Wildcats’ Fulks Secure Honors
The Tyler Star News Athletes of the Week for December 11, 2019, go to Tyler Consolidated Silver Knights Girls Basketball Player Caleigh Phillips and Paden City Girls Basketball player Raven Fulks.
The Knights opened their seson on Friday night against South Harrison at home and Phillips quickly established herself as one of coach Ben Thomas’ go to players.
Although the Knights found themselves in a deep hole to start the game, with the help of Phillips hustle and team play the Silver Knights worked ther way back in the game and actually led at the half. Though they eventually fell by six points Phillips left Knights fands with soething to talk about as she produced 12 points, seven rebounds, six steals and four assists.
Phillips is only a sophomore and has a high knowledge of the game to go along with her speed, athleticism and willing ness to give a good night work each timne she takes the floor. Congratulations to Caleigh on a fine opening performance.
Paden City picked up their first win of the season on Tuesday, December 3, over Hundred and lost their second game of the week on Thursday night against Valley. Fulks was a force for the Wildcats as the junior center collected 12 points and 13 rebounds against the Hornets and came back against Vallety to hit in double digits again with 11 markers while grabbing nine boards.
The Wildcats only have seven total players on the team and four of them are freshmen. Fulks in her third season on the team has turned into a leader for coach Alan Miller and is someone he can count on to help the younger girls get better. Congratulations to Raven on a good start to the season.
