Tyler Takes Care Of Wirt
The Tyler Consolidated Silver Knights made the trip to Elizabeth worthwhile on Friday night and they slayed the Tigers to the tune of 28-14. The Knights struck the first blow at the 6:35 mark of the second quarter when senior quarterback Gage Huffman found senior do-it-all Mark Rucker with a 10 yard scoring toss to put the Knights up 6-0.
The Knights defense had a break down and the Tigers got loose for a 62 yard run to the house. The extra point kick was good and the home team led 7-6. Tyler then found the end zone again when Rucker took the ball 20 yards forhis second score of the quarter at the 2:35 mark to end the first half scoring and give the Kn ights a 12-7 lead at the break.
The third quarter saw the Tigers retake the lead on a 15 yard pass and run play, they tacked on the extra point and went up 14-12 with 4:28 left in the third frame. Rucker got his third T.D. of the night on a 15 yard jaunt to give the Knights a lead they wouldn’t relinquish. Rucker tacked on the two point conversion run and the score was 21-14. The Knights aded another score with 1:48 to play on a 3-yard Rucker run to seal the deal. The Conversion run by Rucker was good again and the Knights evened their record to 2-2 with an away contest at Wbster County set for Friday.
Rucker finished his nights work with 156 yards rushing on 25 attempts three T.D.’s and two conversion runs, plus six recptions for 63 yards and a score, to account for all 28 Silver Knights points. Huffman gained 57 yards on 13 carries and passed for 79 yards and a score on 7-14 attempts.
The Silver Knights ended with 297 total yards to the home teams 182, while running 55 plays to the Tigers 39. Tyler suffered 10 penalties for 90 yards, while Wirt Co. had seven for 65 yards.
