Paden City's Parker Higgins goes in for a score against Hundred.

Paden City did not make the trip to Hundred on Friday Night in vain as they swarmed on the Hornets to the tune of 54-0 for their second straight win by 50 or more points. While both teams were setting at 1-3 going in to the game each one was looking to get that next win. Paden City dominated from start to finish as the Hornets had no answer for the Cats attack that accounted for over 400 total yards and 14 first downs.

Paden City wasted no time getting on the scoreboard scoring three touchdowns in the first period to go up 21-0. Senior running back Clayton Thomas hit paydirt first as he bulled in from three yards out to make it 6-0 with 10:19 left in the period. After stopping the Hornets on a drive the Cats took over and moved the ball down field on a combination of running and passing plays before senior quarterback Ethan Cross found Bryant McKay on a 12 yard scoring strike. Cross ran in the 2-point conversion and Paden City was on it’s way. Thomas added six more to the board with his second score of the night with 1:10 to play in the first and following a good extra point kick there was no stopping the Cats.

“I said at the beginning of the season this is a tough group of kids who would be hard to beat once they get a win. We got off to a rocky start but with a couple wins under our belt we are going to be a tough team to beat,” Coach Zach Heasley said.

We have a couple tough ones coming up starting with a trip to an always tough Cameron team. I expect us to go out there and play hard nosed football, we have some confidence from these last two games and we want to build on that. The kids are not backing down from anyone and the community is getting on board.”

In the second quarter Cross teamed up with Kylar Wade on a 48 yard pass and run play that covered 48 yards for a score. the extra point was true to it’s mark and the Wildcats went into the locker room with a 28-0 lead. The third quarter sealed the deal for Paden City as they put 20 more points on the board with Thomas getting his third and fourth scores of a career night for the standout. With 9:49 to play in the period he ran over a defender to cross the goal line, the extra point kick was good and P.C. led 35-0. Three minutes later an alert Thomas picked up a fumble by Hundred and took it 45 yards to the house breaking two tackles on the way, The point after was true and the game was out of reach for the Hornets with 6:21 still left in the third.

The Wildcats' Rryan Cross escapes the clutches of the Hornet's Gauge Boston.

Paden City made it 48-0 with 4:06 left in the quarter when sophomore Parker Higgins broke free for 24 yards to cross the goal line. The fourth quarter went to a running clock, but Paden City still managed another score on the heels of Higgins as the freshman scampered nine yards for his second six points on the night to end the scoring.

The Wildcats showed complete dominance in all phases of the game as they managed a total 407 yards of offense while scoring eight touchdowns. Thomas picked up 130 yards on 14 carries while Cross ran for 74 on 10 totes. Higgins ran for 73 yards on 11 and freshman Zane Yeater go 21 yards on three carries. Cross went 5-8 passing for 111 yards, two T.D.’s and a score.

Defensively the Wildcats were just as sound as they only allowed a total of 84 yards and caused three tunrovers. Thomas not only scored four touchdowns he also had 12 tackles on the night to keep Hundred away from the end zone.Jason Anderson had a big night defensively with 10 tackles, two stops for loss, a quarterback sack and a fumble recovery. McKay, and Yeater each had three stops, while Cross 2, Shane Anderson 2, and Higgins one had the other tackles.

The Wildcats will travel to Cameron Friday night for a date with the Dragons with a 7 p.m. start. Paden City will have it’s hands full, but I’m going with my heart Wildcats 21-20.
