TCHS’ Spencer Corley, this week’s Athlete of the Week

The Tyler Star News Athlete of the Week for August 28, 2019 is Silver Knight Junior Spencer Corley. After having a breakout cross country season last year, Corley picked up right where he left off last season. On Saturday at the 13th annual Knights Night Cross Country Relays held at Preston High School in Kingwood, WV, he came in fourth overall and first in Class A with a time of 7:40.9 in his mile and a half portion of the relay event.

Corley led his team to a second place finish among Class A schools while finishing 9th among 30 teams in all classes. Corley will be someone to watch this year as he’s listed in Run WV as one of the top five in the state. With 150 runners participating in the event Saturda, Corley finished only seconds behind three runners from Morgantown High School and University High.

Spencer is a dedicated runner and high jumper in track and with two years left to compete he’s certain to own some records that will stand for years to come. He already has a state championship in the high jump and will be looking to add to that again next spring, until then lets watch as he makes a run for the cross country title.
