Spotlight: Zack Placer

Tyler Consolidated’s Zack Placer is in this week’s Sports Spotlight.
The Tyler Star News Spotlight Athlete of the week for August 7, 2019, is Tyler Consolidated three sport standout Zack Placer. I remember watching him a couple years back and telling my fellow sports writer that he had a lot of potential.
Last season he seemed to really start to come on and you could see the potential coming out of him. He has worked extra hard to get to where he’s at and you can expect some big things from him this year. Entering his senior year at Tyler, Zack will be playing soccer for the fourth straight year and will be after his fourth letter. He is a leader on the field and will do what ever it takes to help his team.
He is an aggressive player who gives 100 percent every time he takes the field. He’s a very good defensive player who can pressure opponents into mistakes and turn them into points for the Silver Knights. He has set some lofty goals for himself and his team this season. Last year Placer was named to the all-state honorable mention list. This season he is shooting for higher recognition and is ready to do what it takes to get on the all-state first team. He wants to lead the Silver Knights to the state tournament.
Placer has been a member of the Silver Knights basketball team since his freshman season and is looking forward to another run with them this coming season. He lettered last season and this year with his quickness, hard work and team play he will again be a big part of the Knights basketball program.
When spring sports roll around you will find Zack out on the Silver Knights track running sprints and hurdles. This past season he opened some eyes in the high and low hurdles and made it to the state meet in both events. He got better and better with each meet and was listed as one of the top high hurdlers in the state. He is also one of the Knights top sprinters and a leader for the shuttle relay team. He is without a doubt one of the best hurdlers in Knights history so hold on to your hat you will see some huge numbers for him next spring. He has lettered every year in track and this season bar injury or anything else he will be an all-state hurdler. I see him now standing on the podium receiving his gold.
“I want to further my education following high school and I’m hoping to play soccer or run track where ever I decide to go. Right now I want to try and become a physical therapist or go into sports medicine,'”stated Placer. “Right now though I just want to work hard and get a gold at states.”
Watching Zack the past few years has been a pleasure and we are looking forward to him fulfilling his goals his senior year. Good Luck Zack Placer!
