Wildcats Win Mason-Dixon Shoot-Out
The Mason/Dixon Shootout was held on Saturday, July 27, at the Stealy Green Center in Middlebourne. The Paden City Wildcat basketball team started the day right with a 64-59 win over Tyler Consolidated . However they lost their second game in pool play to the Ohio Valley Ballers 60-57. The Cats won again over Tyler 60-44 to advance in the shootout as the number one seed for the championship round.
Once championship play got under way the Wildcats found themselves in the another matchup with the Silver Knights and came away with a 57-56 win to claim the title.
Carson Palmer went 3-4 from the free throw line in the final minute, including the tail end of a two shot bonus foul with two seconds remaining to give the Cats the lead and nail down the win.Nick Clark played incredibly strong al day inside the paint, pulling rebounds and scoring a lot of points. Ty Cain was a key component in the first win against Tyler, leading the way in scoring, but he had to leave at noon to attend a wedding.
Walter Joy handled the ball well, shot very well from the 3-point line and his defense was key in the victory in the championship game. Everyone played well. Joel Moore (freshman) came on strong at the beginning of the championship game and went 3-3 from beyond the arc.
“I am very proud of how these young men played today. Winning back to back games against Tyler to win the Mason Dixon Summer Shootout,” said coach David Riggle.
“We will carry this momentum into the regular season.”
