Spotlight: Ethan Cross

Paden City’s Ethan Cross is in this week’s Sports Spotlight.
The Tyler Star News Spotlight athlete for the week of July 31,2019 is Paden City High School Senior Ethan Cross.
With the 2019-20120 school year fast approaching seniors to be are preparing for their final year with high expectations. One local senior Ethan Cross will be counted on heavily by Paden City high school football coach Zach Heasley to run the Wildcats offense and create some problems for opposing teams.
Cross has a lot of natural ability and if he stays healthy he could be a difference maker in three sports for the Cats.
He is a standout guard on the basketball court and when he’s on he can score points in a hurry.
The Wildcats will have new coaches not only in football ut also basketball where Dave Riggle will step in to take over for Coach Jeff Hohn.
Cross missed much of last season with personal problems, but if summer basketball is any indication he’s back with a fury.
While football and basketball are next up, come spring you will more than likely find him on the baseball field manning an infield spot.
For the time being though the 5’8″ 195 poundspark plug is looking to get the call at quarterback for the Cats.
On the defensive side of the ball he will be a wrecking machine at linebacker.
“Want to talk about someone who has battled adversity, it’s Ethan.
“He’s a good example of someone who always gets up after getting knocked down and it has translated to the weight room and the football field.
“Because of his adversity, he has taken hard work and determination to another level,” said Coach Heasley.
“He is a vocal leader and makes sure every player is in the right place at the right time. He is always one of the first to the field and one of the last to leave.”
Heasley said he stating what he likes about Ethan is his football IQ.
“Within 10 minutes of our position meetings, he picked up easily on the topics covered and was able to teach the other players.
“His ability to read defenses and make the right, quick decision is incredible.
He also gives 110% in whatever he does, and I expect big things from him this fall,” added
Heasley.
