A Tyler Consolidated player puts up a shot against Paden City during the Mason Dixon Basketball Shootout held in Middlebourne.

Tyler Consolidated and Paden City High School both got in some good pre-season basketball on Saturday, July 13, at the Stealey Green Center in Middlebourne. The Silver Knights hosted the Mason Dixon Shootout on Saturday for high school kids age 14-18.

Paden City entered a JV Team and a Varsity team while the Silver Knights enetered a freshman and a Varsity team. Cameron high school also entered a team. Competition started at 11 a.m. with Paden City JV taking on the TCHS Freshman. Gmes followed every hour with pool play ending at 3 p.m. followed by tournament action.

It was a good chance for local kids to compete against each other in a real game setting. Everyone got plenty of playing time with some teams playing as many as six times during the day. Tyler Consolidated Varsity ended the day as the overal winner, however every team entered came away with some valuable experience.

Summer time basketball is what it takes to get you ready for the upcoming season. These players put in a hard days work and the coaches and parents are to be commended for keeping them involved. A big thank you goes out to all the volunteer help who made it happen.

All three schools who entered teams gave fans a good look at what to expect once the winter basketball season rolls around. Several of the kids have really developed some basketball skills they didn’t have last season and some are bigger and stronger. Looks like it might be a good year.

Steve Nutter will be back for his second year at the helm for the Silver Knights and Paden City has yet to name a new coach to replace Coach Jeff Hohn who resigned following last season.
