By Staff | Jul 10, 2019

Tyler Consolidated three-sport standout Mark Rucker is this week’s Tyler Star News Spotlight Athlete.

The Spotlight Athlete for July 10, 2019 is Tyler Consolidated three sports star Mark Rucker. When it comes to sports at Tyler Consolidated Mark Rucker is a household name. He will be entering his senior year this fall and will be in the hunt to set some individual records in scoring and yardage as a football player.

On the basketball court Rucker is as skilled as anyone around and can get to the basket with his quickness and physical strength. He is a good scorer, but is an unselfess player who trys to keep his team involved. Around the boards and on defense he may be at his best. Keep your eyes open come basketball season, he is bound to give Coach Nutter some good moments.

As good as he is in baketball and football, his best sport may be track where he has proven to be one of the fastest sprinters in the state. On the football field he will give Coach Walton a quality player who may move on to play big time college ball. His ability to run back kicks and punts are a big plus for the Silver Knights as he can break one for a score at any time. He also has great hands and will be the main threat receiving. As a running back he has not only speed but power to run over and through the defense.

With Rucker in the backfield with quarterback Gage Huffman the Knights will be a tough stop for everyone they play. As good as he is on offense he is also a great defensive player who can change a game quickly with his defensive prowless.

“I believe Mark to be one of the best fottball players we’ve had here in a long time. He is skilled in so many ways, but his ability to make good things happen makes him dangerous for opposing teams. We are counting on him heavily to lead this team and with his leadership a lot of other kids will mature into better players. They look up to him and that is a plus when it comes to coaching as well,” said Coach Walton.

Fottball season is just around the corner so lets get ready for some excitement as Rucker and the Silver Knights prepare to make the 2019 season one to remember.

“I hope to lead us into the post season and get a couple wins. We have been working hard in the weight room and are summer training went real well for the three weeks. We have some younger kids but when we get a couple games under our belt we’ll be alright. My goal is to get us to the playoffs and leave a good mark on my career at Tyler Consolidated,” said Rucker. The Tyler Star News wishes Mark Rucker the very best during his seinior year at TCHS and in his future following high school.
